Don't jump off the cliff. I didn't say anything about "typical American food" and I don't think I'm particularly fat, loud or ugly. A bit chubby yes. Completely beside the point though.
I'm just saying, you can't compare all natural peanut butter to Nutella. You have to compare a commercial product like Nutella to an equivalent like Jif or Skippy or whatever, which also have hydrogenate oils including palm oil sugar and salt. (ie, not just "peanuts & a bit of salt".
I'm sure there are healthier chocolate spreads, nut butters, etc. That's not what we are talking about.
Anyway, the point, I think, really is that 1. Nutella's marketing is a bit OTT on the nutrient claims. But 2. I think most people don't actually believe it's a health food and they are going to get their nutritional goal met eating Nutella.
What? Never heard of it! A quick google shows me that is is the right colour. So what is it? And what does it taste like? Is it a local version of vegemite ( so cheaper?)
Really?...Good to know...Next time I'm in Holland I'll look for some peanut butter to sample...I didn't realize they loved juices so much, that was a fun discovery last time in Amsterdam
perhaps i am not the best person to reply, as i have tried marmite only once (and not sure if i have tried vegemite). but from what i can remember it tastes a lot like marmite (hopefully i won't be stoned for saying that :P). we use it also for cooking and i am quite sure it is swiss. try it!
It's pinda kaas in Dutch. The favorite, I've been told is Calve, which is not just mashed peanuts. But it's good, just has some other stuff in there. You can find it grocery stores. There are also bio versions.
I'm trying to think of the Nutella commercials I've seen, I can't recall any of them talking about how "healthy" it is but rather that it will give (kids) lots of energy for their day.
So, the sugar = quick burn, the fat = longer burn, the chocolate simply makes it taste good... yep, sounds like potential energy until lunch to me. Snickers bars also have / had similar aimed commercials, energy, not "health".
Ah well, to erase any doubt about how healthy I think Nutella is or isn't, I suggest this:
