Nutrition Specialist/Dietician for Kids

I am looking for a Nutrition Specialist/Dietician who can perform necessary tests and recommend a diet for a child, in order to see if the child has intolerance to certain products that could potentially jeopardize growth.

Can anyone recommend such a specialist in the Zurich area?

Thank you!!

Your first port of call should be your child’s paediatrician.

They can organise those tests for you.

Similar advice to above. Quite a lot of allergies and intolerances can be tested now with a blood test - far more than when my eldest child was going through this 20 years ago.... your paediatrician can organise this.

Then you can either see a Paediatrician who specialises in allergies, a dermatologist if you are having skin reactions who can do skin testing and prescribe treatment, an endocrinologist if it is auto-immune, or a specialist feeding/nutrition clinic at the children's hospital if it is a behavioural pattern that needs intervention of some sort (for the parent/caregiver or for the child).

I have seen all combinations of the above, having worked now 10+ years in childcare and as a mum of three....

I would not eliminate anything from a child's diet without first doing the blood tests...and they are not the 'usual' tests...the paediatrican will need to request additional tests...

As others have written, first call is normally your GP/pediatrician would will refer you to an allergy clinic if required and usually the GP will ensure all the arrangements are made.

Obviously not applicable to you but the one in Luzern near the Lion statue was fantastic in sorting out our child who was missing a lot of school as he was ill so often.

Thank you everyone!

Our pediatrician tested for gluten intolerance (blood test, negative). As far as food intolerances are concerned, that was it.

Apart from being visually smaller than most other kids his age and regular constipations (apologies for the details!), there is nothing else.

Tom1234, does that pediatrician in Luzern specialize in food intolerance issues?

I think that you may be going down an incorrect route. A healthy diet certainly supports growth, but I have not heard of particular intolerances severely impacting growth. (I preface, that while I've worked in growth related disorders, it's been a while and I'm no expert)

Where did this hypothesis come from?

If it were me (and I know it is not), I would be seeking the advice of a paediatric endocrinologist. They are really the experts on growth and if it's not hormonal, they would certainly be able to point you in the correct direction.

The constipation may be unrelated and a red herring.

I wish you the best in finding a solution.

Their speciality is breathing problems in children but they also do food intolerances, anaphylaxis and so on (they can all be related).
