It is not that I am arguing with you but having driven both the Touran is way better value for money only it is a newer model and therefore has not had long enough to get down to the price of the Zafira - comparing a 2004 version I think the Touran has a clear price performance advantage. What the Zafira has is a clear PRICE only advantage on older models where the Touran has not been around long enough. The Sharan has flexible seating are you here talking about the ability to fold the seats down? You can of course not do that in a Sharan but you can take them out...
Peugot/Citroen and Lancia all have sliding doors seeing as they are all the same car with different badges on and different interiors...
Not quite sure how you get to say the Voyager is a waste of money. It certainly is not perfect but waste of money I cannot agree with - in fact I would say for new cars it has the best price/performance of them all At 30K for such a lot of car you cannot really criticize it...
The new 1.4 Touran with super/turbo charging really does fill the gap which existed in the range. The 1.6FSI fully-loaded with passengers and luggage was going nowhere fast.
Personally for 7 seats, I'd stick with my Discovery.
The Voyager's likely binned a load of value in depreciation and you will get a solid motor for the money. Might drink more than you like but the V6 pulls well.
Image-wise, I find it horrific especially certain colours - but that's my opinion of course
I will stick with my opinion on Zafira from Price/Performance ratio . Unfortunately Touran is a bit late to enter this game. With a budget of 15k i will go for Zafira (Touran cheapest 24k).
You didn't mention Espace 2003 onward model in your list. I think it is one of the best mid range MPV.
Flexible seating system means folding the seats down (not to take out). Believe me it is not easy to put those seats back on. You need substantial amount of pressure to buckle in the seats. The other problem is storage of such seats when you are not using a 7 seater.
Sorry to use words like "waste of money" but as i said it is my personal opinion. This car will depreciate like a notebook....
Two other seven-seaters for people to consider: the Fiat Doblo (around 17k with the 1.3L engine) and the Dacia Logan MCV (around 12k, though there don't seem to be any dealers in Ticino, and they fail Tom's "you must have an italian version of your website" test.)
The Chrysler in that NCAP Test is a 2001 model! Don't be confused!
They have significantly improved safety all around with the face lift (can't remember 03 or 04 up). Currently it is considered very safe.
I would say go for the Chrysler.
Having driven one and also a couple germans (touran and zafira) the voyager is just sooo much more comfortable. And "Made in Austria", same plant where they build Mercedes.
And you get those cool seats that can be turned around, used as tables or flat fold in the floor.
6-7 seats - Merc GL or R-class. I don't know about the GL but the Mercs will come in at 100 grand or so - and second hand will be hard to find (especially GL).
The GL and R are new to the market and to be honest not that popular yet. Even the R which is out for 18 months or so is not common. Is this good? I've seen two GLs and they look really like the ML....does the ML come with the extra row?
Volvo XC90, Disco3, Audi Q-thingy have 7 seats.
Do consider that with the third row of seats in use, these models tend to have not that much luggage room.
Very interesting comments you make. I have tested a GL and it is nothing like the ML... Not to look at nor to drive... It is also quite a lot bigger and absolutely magnificent - possibly the best tank I have ever driven. There is just one catch - the 120K ticket on the thing...
Why not mention the Toyota Landcruiser which fully jazzed comes in at just under 100K. And this can seat up to 8! We are going to look at this at the weekend... Report back then ;-)
Re Chrysler spot on it is an old model that has been recently tested... However you should be aware that it is a bit tongue in cheek to say Mercedes are made at the same plant... Vito is not really a mercedes...
yep, OK, it's still the same Steyr plant in Graz. They make a lot of things and I'm sure at high quality.
Funny how everybody started listing 7 seater cars, and there's a whole slew of them.
I'm a bit of an SUV fan so have to agree, GL is very nice. And you also have the new BMW X5 (just released) with a lower price tag, 7 seats and free maintenance.
And there are a few US model 7 seaters that can be bought in CH too with full warranty service, as long as you can afford the fuel: Chevy Tahoe/Suburban/Escalade, Dodge Durango (only 50k!!), Jeep Commander.
