Can anyone recommend a good optician in Basel that isn't too expensive? My contact lens prescription needs to change soon (I wear multifocal lenses and have an astigmatism in one eye). I would normally see my optician back in Scotland, but they've had a change in staff and the last couple of times I went I wasn't happy with the service. They also made a mistake with husband's spectacle lenses and wouldn't accept responsibility.
I have been to McOptik at Mittelbrucke about 6 years ago when I lived at Clara, but they kept getting me to go back and try different lens powers which dragged on for about a fortnight, then in the end they were really expensive.
I've searched the forum but previous threads on this are very old now.
Fielmann is pretty good and good value, but be prepared for the hard sell on your way out. Every time I have an eye exam (and explain that I'm just interested in the prescription), I'm escorted afterwards down to the sales floor, introduced to a salesperson, and they insist on discussing frames / lenses / etc before I leave. Very hard to leave with just a prescription -- the optometrist is clearly a loss-leader for selling more glasses.
Was recently at Ramstein at Marktplatz very good service! Also have Astigmatism and they found a solution after some appointments. Would highly recommend!
