They recently told me and immediately asked me if I am interested. I remember they tried 12 years ago and gave up as nobody wanted it. I think one of the factors I found out 12 years ago is that I can get an extension so I can stay in the apartment up to 2 years. Plus its quite risky to buy when prices seem to be on the rise and its an average apartment at best so they may struggle again to sell it.
My questions are:
Does anyone know if I can still get an extension to stay beyond the contract end date?
Is there any advantage to buying the apartment in my situation other than the obvious of no moving costs ect. For example, can I avoid any buying costs through the private sale or negotiate the prices down or are prices legally fixed. I assume they cant just set any price and I can challenge a silly price.
If someone buys it and wants move in themself they can kick you out pretty quickly, if someone buys as an investment and would like to kick you out in order to let to someone else - this will be more complicated.
Not really (depends on contract)- I mean it still takes a few months. - Owner occupation of apartment is a privileged thing and allows to cancel rental contract by Owner in a very simplified way.
Rent has gone down since I moved in 20 years ago. The neighbours pay nearly 50% more for an identical apartment. So I guess the owner just doesn't get a decent enough return.
Not really. We lived in our rented place for 10 years before the owner wanted to sell. Sadly we couldn’t afford to buy it. He was selling because he was based in Thailand and elderly parents lived in the house up the hill from us. Guess he knew he’d never come back to live here so decided to sell the house.
