Hi I’m helping the Mrs who will be giving a PP Presentation on Thursday.
She’s borrowed a Acer PC and a Sanyo Beamer for the purpose and asked me to show her how to set it all up.
PC - up and running, power point loaded as is .pptx file. HDMI cable connected
Beamer - turns on, Input set to HDMI (and cable connected) but shows no input.
Pressing Fn + F5 brings up a side menu shat should allow 4 choices, PC only, Duplicate, Extend, 2nd screen only. I’m guessing I need either 2 or 4. Clicking on choices selects them but output doesn’t appear to change. Beamer still says ‘no input’.
Earlier this year when we got the newest Swisscom TV Box, which was then being heavily marketed, it came with a kit including a new HDMI cable. The instructions explicitly stated that the only new HDMI cable should be used. However, because the TV is wall mounted and it is a hassle to get at all the connections, I ignored this advice. Anyway, the next morning, my wife complained that her TV experience of the previous evening was marred by shimmering and freezing images, so I then installed the newest HDMI cable as per instructions. Apparently, the problem is solved or, at least, I have heard no more complaints.
I believe it comes with a HDMI 2.0 cable, which is already a pretty old standard. So unless your cable was ancient (pre- 2013) or damaged it shouldn't have mattered.
It could well be that the HDMI cable on the old TV box was ancient. The cable diameter is rather thin compared with the new one. Indeed, that cable may even predate my old TV box. I may have misappropriated the supplied one to use on my PC monitor. I wasn’t aware previously that there are a number of quality categories for these things. However, I have now found this which explains some of it: https://www.tripplite.com/products/hdmi-cable-types . The bandwidth range between these categories appears to be from 4.95Gb/s to 48Gb/s.
I very much doubt it since they are so cheap and thus beyond economical repair. However if you could isolate the fault to a connector then you could do it yourself with a solderless kit like this . If the issue is somewhere along the cable then I really wouldn’t bother since it will be a nightmare trying to trace which of the 19 wires is broken, or where along the cable the break is.
However disposal may not be so bad if you take it to MediaMarkt etc… since they may pass it on to recyclers for the copper and aluminium. There is money to be made in that.
