Swiss ARE the least noisy country then any other county that I know of. They also have a reputation of that. Sorry, but it is a fact. I mean, there is a law where you should not use your toilet after 22? On Sundays, once I went to throw my bottles and cans, and the old lady came out yelling at me. Its forbidden on Sun.
And your sentence in a braces tells about you what do you think of any foreigner in Swiss. You are probably one of those SVP guys or what?
I was not even referring to you about reading the post. You also did not get my point of that discussion that not concerns you in any way.
Hey dude, get laid, read a book, visit a gym or something, but stop being an ass. Leaving any further discussion with you just because I am not in the mood of leveling myself down to the level of idiot.
There are ignorants spreading an urban myth around because "they heard" something and because it's quick, dirty, and easy to spread anything bad to mock the Swiss.
Old ladies have been shouting at me even when I was in France or UK: that's what they do, some people are fecked up, needs attention, etc... Swiss don't have the monopoly for that.
Oh for the "foreigner" thing, maybe keep your interpretation in your imagination... I am a foreigner here. I even have a "permis" to remind me that I am a foreigner.
But foreigner or not, I don't need that to see if we are being unfair towards the Swiss or not. (Not even talking about SVP, there's absolutely nothing political in my comment!!)
But what do you think the Swiss would do if they team wins? You think they will not celebrate? On the other hand, there is so many foreigners here, and it is the way it is, and neither me or you cannot change it, and I personally think it is a good way to go for the city and the country, and if for exmple Italy wins, I see no problem in people celebrating on the streets. I was yesterday at langstrasse, they were loud, but after 12, 12:30 everything stopped, went back to normal. And that was Langstrasse.
What are you here, a Swiss statue of justice, but not actually a Swiss? That makes you no different then foreigners not respecting the country they live in. I am just saying that honking is not disrespecting act.
Maybe you should respect what you said yourself " Leaving any further discussion with you just because I am not in the mood of leveling myself down to the level of idiot." rather than spreading any further nonsense.
"I am just saying that honking is not disrespecting act."
I am just saying that that statement is absolutely dumb.
No point to further explain why, I think it has been discussed on and on again above (refer to night+ law + health issues + respect +disturbance + annoyance...)
Same happens in England, especially after we beat Germany 5-1 in 2001 but is such a rare occurence that England win any big meaningful games dont think its happened since we beat Germany 5-1 in 2001 ( oh have I already mentioned that ) Last decent foot ball we played, and horn honking we did!!!
Mini traffic jam caused by the Italians at Luzern Bahnhof last night, for some reason the police had closed the road off going back over the bridge, channeling all the cars through the station. Maybe it was to dissaude them from going back and forth over the bridge.
Delayed my bus by a couple of minutes, which was lucky for me in this case, otherwise I would have just missed it.
foam plugs can provide 33db protection, the db of a horn is calculated at any distance upto 100mm from source (typical) and the SPL drops off quite quickly as distance increases.
The signal from the horn is obviously attenuated by distance, and other elements (windows, walls, etc...). It's not a loss-less signal it's never as strong as near the source...
Yes I doubt that it's at its maximum level when they honk from the street, but still it's relatively significant to be noted.
Even with simple maths: 120Db -33Db, we are still at 87Db. Within reasonable distance, it can be still around 70Db, above "annoyance" levels.
I was just pointing that example to say it's not as simple as using earplugs and the noise is gone...
I agree with a lot of your posts, but not this one. Give people a break especially the people who've had a hard struggle in this country to pull themselves out of the "Swiss I AM" attitude. You may have integrated in your way but I don't believe you've been through half the schitt that so many of the European first immigrants had to go through here.
Ha ha, well, I guess I fit right in I am generally not a fan of loud noises anyway so I rather like the peace and quiet here. But really if they were doing it at something other than an ungodly hour I wouldn't care...but when it gets past midnight/1am/etc then I get annoyed!
Man after typing that I feel like some old fart yelling at all the young kids to get off my lawn. Ha ha
Really? There is no horn-honking culture in the UK that I've ever noticed, and I've been following football there for around 50 years. People are generally too drunk to think of getting in their cars after a big game. Falling over and going to sleep with a smile has always seemed much more appealing.
As for the main point, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" has never seemed like a bad motto to me.
Sorry to seem like a wet blanket, but can I be old-fashioned enough (or simply old enough) to say that it seems disrespectful, in a foreign, naturally conservative and law-abiding country, to drive round quiet residential areas in the early hours honking car horns. People may be sick, may have young children, may have an exam or a job interview in the morning....
Before midnight, well OK then. After midnight? No.
And before anyone accuses me of sour Sangiovese, as a proud Englishman I would like to warmly congratulate Italy on a well-deserved victory. Both sides had chances to win in the 90, but once into extra time the Italians showed they were better and fitter. Well done.
