Malaria kills more people than anything else on this planet. To not take malaria prophylactics is crazy.
Fifty percent of the world's rabies deaths are in India. There are a lot of wild packs of dogs.
Avoiding dogs in India is a very sensible idea.
But we're not talking about these two deadly diseases. The OP is asking about prophylactics for an upset tummy which, as others have said, really shouldn't be his main concern and, as I pointed out in a previous post, can happen anywhere.
For the equivalent of Pepto, I would suggest asking the pharmacist. Recently I wanted to know what they would use here instead of calamine lotion. Even though the woman had no idea what I was talking about she looked it up (in English) on her computer and was able to see what the ingredients were, etc.
There is something here that is similar, but last time the doctor gave it to me and it was years ago, so again, I don't remember the name off hand. It came in small silver tubes, had vanilla flavoring and tasted like poop.
Lastly, since Cipro is a prescribed medication in the US (a STRONG antibiotic), you will most likely have to talk with your doctor to get a prescription here for an equivalent.

STOP:
Cipro should NOT be used as prophylaxis -- it's one of the few antibiotics that still reliably works. However, you can ask your doc for a script and get it filled in CH before departure (I did this recently, but insurance doesnt cover it), to take along with you as a REACTIVE measure should you come down with the Delhi Belhi.
At the first sign of diarrhea, take TWO Imodium, and again after each incident take ONE Imodium. If the symptoms persist after 2 days, then start the course of Cipro IN ITS ENTIRETY, even if symptoms go away and you start to feel better.
It's important to take these REACTIVE measures at the right time and prudently, as the alternative is severe dehydration which will require a doctor's visit and possible hospitalization.
GO:
Also, the reverse is also not uncommon. So you'll want to take along some laxatives and/or stool softeners (your preference). Often times, travelers think only of the Delhi Belhi (and the resultant embarrassment or fear of shitting themselves in public), but seldom do they consider that constipation is another common problem causing great discomfort that can easily ruin a trip.
