Pillar 2 pension fund xfer to uk

Hi - I left the uk to work in Switzerland from 2013 to end of 2016.

On return to uk I was able to withdraw part of my pillar 2 pension fund to the UK in 2017. I don’t remember much about how it went ,but no issues or I would remember.

Part of the pension (pillar 2) had to stay invested in Switzerland.

Due to blood cancer I have a high chance of expiring in the next 24 months and currently on chemo that muddle my head.

Gone from someone who could work these things out to someone who puts the kettle in the fridge....

I’m 60 in December this year and I want to withdraw the other part of pension now.

I have emailed pension company and asked for forms today.

This will save my wife the hassle in a few years time.

I have some questions I hope someone may be able to help with.

- I presume the canton of Zug where I worked will withhold tax?

The amount of pension pot is small and only 35,000 CHF.

Tax rate I’m not sure of ..tried looking it up but all examples are for Zurich.

- Will I have to pay tax on the lump also in the uk when I get it?

Thanks in anticipation of any answers.

After Brexit it has been possible to withdraw the entirety of pillar 2. You will pay withholding tax in Switzerland but it should be quite low. There is a dual taxation policy in place so no tax to pay in the UK on lump sum withdrawals.

You will pay tax in the Kanton where the pension fund free passage account has its legal domicile. For the amount that you describe I would not bother to try and tax optimize this and just withdraw it.

Wish you all the best in this difficult situation.
