Funnily enough a visitor yesterday had a bottle of Migros own brand ice tea with her and I noticed that it had one of the new style lids on it so figured Switzerland must be going down the EU route.
I have no problem with them in fact I actually like them.
I agree it’s a good idea. The plea that we don’t need them is not supported by the litter on our streets.
I will continue to rip them off (carefully to try to avoid spillage) as soon as I open any container using them. Also, I don’t believe that even once in at least the last 20 or so years have a I failed to correctly dispose of any bottle, with its cap in place. I don’t care what the logic is of this, I still hate them.
You do realise laws aren’t created just for you?
Are you saying I don’t need to obey them?
No, I’m saying it doesn’t matter what you think or do. Others have obviously done differently.
This law obviously wasn’t created for you but just because you get nothing out of it directly, it doesn’t mean it’s an unnecessary law.
DO I need to add a /jk tag or a smiley, or will you continue to fail to see an obvious attempt at humour?
If it’s obvious, you wouldn’t need an emoji, would you?
It can’t have been that obvious as I clearly missed it too.
Depends where you are, it’s not a Swiss law. So you have to make sure you know at all times where you are.
But actually even in the EU it’s a law for bottle-producers. AfaIk what you do with it is not regulated. So keep ripping it off until that pisses you off more
“Luft raus, Deckel drauf” is the Swiss slogan for PET for 34 years now (which explains to Slammer, why the Swiss squash them), any person who lived here long enough will automatically screw it on, it’s an “in your sleep”-thing. And like any EU-rule it’s not the solution, PET has to go.
I find them annoying as I normally drink from the bottle and the cap always ends up scratching my face. I guess there will be one where the cap can be rotated out of the way.
Yeah, I do that as well, it’s annoying and it gets drips from the cap on your chin. It’s also impossible to rinse the cap off, so if it’s something like thick fresh cream the residue on the inside of the cap can start to go off much faster.
It’s worth noting that these are not exclusive to PET bottles. Cardboard containers (e.g. for milk) now also have the same sort of cap on them.
All the tops I’ve seen here can be rotated so they are out of way. OH insists on ripping off his water bottle tops. Last night he awoke, thirsty and groggy, and took a swig from his water…lost the top down the bedclothes and couldn’t find it. Had to turn on the light to rummage around to locate it.
You’re in France, right? The supermarket milk containers here don’t (yet?) have the attached-lids and it only seems to be the PET bottles of drinks and such, so I guess they’re just attached-lids by default because they are made in the EU but the milk cartons, etc are made here in CH?
I’m neither here nor there on them being attached to the neck. The only downside is that they take an extra fiddle to screw back on because they are prone to being cross-threaded.
Others may disagree with me (they usually do) but who the hell drinks bottled water at home? What’s wrong with tap water and a glass?
I can understand people wanting carbonated water sometimes but those PET water bottle days are long gone.
You seldom see discarded PET bottles by the roadside and in cities like you used to and lots of cities in Europe now provide water taps/fountains to refill your re-usable bottle.
Even Theme/amusement parks now provide free water fountains from which you can refill your bottles.
Agree. The whole BS in which institutions, companies, media and governments are trying to shift the blame on ME for global warming, the extermination of the whales and the microplastics in India is pathetic. Its an inconvenience which doesn’t solve any problem.
Our water bottles are bought while on the road…when we get home, we fill them with the neighbourhood spring water from snow melt.
OK, fair enough. Just seemed a bit weird and over-indulgent to me.
