- estrich/screed normally cannot be polished from different reasons (cracks, wrong material, either cement used or the stones, not levelled enough, structural problems,...) This kind of concrete is the cheapest, most basic one
- it can be ground / blasted / scarified, which gives it a certain rustic appearance, but probably it will not be long term solution
- the surface can be sealed with different materials
- or it can be completely covered with some kind of paint / resin etc
as a first step, you need someone to evaluate the material you have, and from there on, you can see your options. You can do your own research through home-builders forums till you will be able to evaluate it or you hire someone who works with concrete floors. You can do a lot, for example the facade of Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein was ground and polished in a single piece, in-situ, but I think you need to look for a solution that suits you:
This is for a new build and the type of screed they put down will need to be the polishing type.. Essentially it has to be proper type of concrete rather then simple sand + cement mix.. But its finally in the hands of someone capable, so it will happen.. We're looking for an effect like this:
If I see it right, that is "Spachtelboden" which is made with 2 component mass that is poured on the levelled and prepared foundation. It's more like plaster made of minerals and raisin. I could also be wrong there are so many products on the market, it is hard to guess just from picture.
Anyone know what company this post could be speaking about. I am looking for a company that can do a proper polished concrete floor. Not that “terrezo” stuff. Not a fan as it just looks like a painted floor. I don’t need the aggregate to be seen but looking for a semi to high gloss finish with color variations in the screed. See photo.
