Just wanted to ask if anyone has had problems sending anything to the UK in the post?
I posted 2 small packages and some letters back to family and friends back in Scotland over 10 days ago and nothing has been received by them yet. I sent the letters priority and one of the packages on the service that takes up to 5 days (paid an extra 6 francs for this).
Concerned about things going missing, although nothing is valuable.
Cherub. Do you still have the receipt which should have a tracking number on it? On the Post website you can enter the tracking number. That should give you some information on when it left Switzerland, perhaps more ... Definitely for the expedited package.
That will only give you the information up to the date it is supposed to have left Switzerland.
Given that Switzerland is such a small country, knowing that your parcel has perhaps travelled the first 70km of perhaps an 8000km journey isn't really a lot of help in the grand scheme of things.
The UK is having real issues in some areas with post due to staff sickness and lack of staff. I had 7 birthday cards that were posted to me first class and took over 10 days to arrive and that is within the UK.
Try not to worry, I am sure that they will arrive - my post girl told me that in their sorting office there is loads of undelivered post that they are trying to work through...
US post is broken. Trump appointed head of the postal system appears to be at war with Biden administration.
Swiss to Japan post was relatively quick as have been several deliveries originating in the UK (2) and Germany (also 2) during the past month. The postal ones were as quick as their DHL counterparts.
My packages to the US arrived between 7 and 21 days but were sent at the same time. One package was lost forever. To be fair, I blamed this on the US post office.
If it's going by airmail via Geneva, it could be blocked by this CFF/SBB train issue that has interrupted transports of persons, post and merchandise since Tuesday this week. See this thread-
A letter was sent to me from Zürich first class to the UK on the 22nd October and it still hasn't arrived. But another was sent on Monday and it arrived today.
A very large proportion of ‘air’ mail to Europe actually moves by truck. This particularly true when belly capacity is low, like now.
The low cost airlines don’t carry mail, or any cargo, as it slows down the loading and unloading of the aircraft. Their decision, not imposed on them.
Mail isn’t that profitable for the airlines, in particular as they have an obligation to return empty mail bags for free. While they aren’t that heavy they do take up volume.
Found out over the weekend one package arrived on Friday, the other to my sister is being delivered by Royal Mail on Wednesday. Unfortunately the value of her package was slightly over what's now permitted and she was charged £19.20 for it, half of that was for the Royal Mail handling it (I've remibursed her as it was gifts for her an my elderly Aunty).
A letter I sent to my great nephew with some info for his fine art course project hasn't arrived yet, it was posted priority 10 days ago.
