PostFinance car insurance

Hi, PostFinance's car insurance is pretty amazing value compared to the other insurers, they are fronting for a german subsidiary (great lakes is the company name) but this is part of Munich Re I believe.

I called their customer service and they say all communication / claims / admin is done via PostFinance so its not like your being shipped out to some local webshop in Germany.

But real experience would be better. has anyone used them ? any views ?

I have post finance car insurance at the moment. I've been with them since I moved here in 2019. No accident, so I cannot comment on how they would handle that side of things. I like the online interface for managing cover, deal is good too. Pretty cheap with fully comprehensive. They do seem to be registered under something called great lakes which I don't really know why but yes you deal with post finance directly. I would recommend given my experience, they also have customer service in English which is a bonus.

Agree with bwkranger, I switched over last year for my car (not yet for my motorcycle, but I hope that comes soon as well!) and no complaints. It's almost half of what I paid at Axa (and at Axa I had employee discount as well). I had to exchange my windshield because of a crack - no hassle at all, went straight to Carglass and everything was sorted out.

So far, can only recommend them.

I switched from Axa to Postfinance Car Insurance beginning of 2021. Since all insurance providers are obliged to fleece off drivers holding third-country nationalities, the price difference was very compelling, and so I made the switch.

In September I ended up backing my car in a tight underground parking into a wrongly parked mini forklift. The Postfinance insurance website's interface to upload my damage incident was nice and intuitive, and I was able to explain my incident in multiple clear steps. But then came the catch.

The partner company handling the claims is AVUS Schweiz AG (avus-claims.ch), and they are the ones who got in touch with me. Strangely enough they seemed to have no documentation of the incident, and I had to explain the situation to them again. There were requests of sending the sketch of the incident, and what not, which I frankly didn't have to do in the singular similar claims case I made with Axa in the previous 3 years. Anyways, so the representative from AVUS confirmed that they don't have any partner contract with any specific garage so I can get a quote for fixing the damage from anywhere. Owning a VW, I drove up to the nearest AMAG, and unsurprisingly enough, the gentleman at the Karosserie division desk has never heard of this insurance, and he recommends to call AVUS and confirm which partner garages they have, else the processing of this claim could be problematic. So I spent the next hour at AMAG making calls to AVUS, and finally ending up making AMAG and AVUS talk to each other, to be able to convince AMAG to look at my car and confirm an appointment for the repair work. This was unpleasent to say the least. Then AVUS also informed that they would send a claims inspector for validating my story, which I understand is a necessity, so I gave them the date of my appointment at AMAG, so that they could send someone down for this inspection.

Eventually everything got covered, so there is nothing to complain about, but be prepared for a mildly less smoother experience in the initial cases, in comparison to the likes of Axa, Zürich, etc. insurances.

We went with Postfinance for the car we bought this year, as the price was way lower than any other offers.

Haven't had to deal with any claims so far, however.

Why is Post Finance dabbling in insurance now....?

At the end of the day they are an agent working for another unknown insurance outfit and are they really that much cheaper than the other ones such as SMILE or other established companies ?

If al lgoes great then no problem, problems arise when you have a claim and it's too late to change by then.

PF and Poste seem to dabble in a lot of things these days, the post offices are more like a corner store now selling a bit of everything, they should maybe concentrate on what they know best ?

Jack of all trades, Master of none ?
