Private creche vs BIPE price Geneva

Hello,

My partner and I just moved to Geneva and we are having a baby in June.

We visited BIPE today and were told the chance of us getting a placement anytime soon is very small, so we are starting to look at private options.

It would be much appreciated if someone could advise how much would private vs BIPE creche cost respectively (we have double income).

And if we decide to use a private creche now, can we still switch to BIPE when placement becomes available?

I'm not surprised you couldn't get a spot with such short notice, but hopefully someone will be along shortly with alternative suggestions.

BIPE:

Five days a week full day (with meals) more or less around 15/17k if you both earn for a chrece

You need to sign up and wait, no guarantee to get what you want immediately.

Private:

From 17k to 28k for five days a week

You need to send applications in Jan/Feb to hope for a place in September

Are you sure? Most of my friends in Zurich are paying more than 3k per month for private ones, which makes it 36k+ per year (some have to pay also for holidays).

Most crèches will have waiting lists, and it's not unusual for couples to put their name down for a place several months before the baby is due, and if that date is after the beginning of the 'school' year you might be asked to pay to reserve said place (my son had to do this for each of his off-spring).

Here's a link to a crèche near Carouge just to give you an idea of prices in the private sector; fees will be based on your combined incomes and seem to be ~90 francs a day at this particular establishment. Rules such as giving notice, etc. are explained as well.

The most expensive ones I've seen in Geneva are ECOLINT and the German Schule and both don't go over 30k (but are close).

I just changed creche for my son and I did a bit of scouting, most schools I've spoken with were in the 14-19k range.

I was under the impression that ECOLINT is a school, not a creche? Not sure about the German Schule. My daughter paid almost 4K a month for full-time (private) creche close to Geneva and spots can be difficult to find.
