Another erudite answer from you.
Thanks. I just learned a new word. Now I feel very erudite.
Can you two just give it a rest.
It is wrong to ask for statistics to back up a ludicrous claim?
Is it OK to tell someone to shut the f*ck up for asking for said statistics?
There are ways of asking that are far better than the way you do it.
Yes, but I’ve given him statistics before when he asked for them and he basically ignored them and said he felt he was safer with painted lines even though it’s simply not the case.
But, if it makes you happy:
@komsomolez: Please can you provide statistics to show that painted lines on country roads makes it safer for cyclists?
I explained this before. Look it up.
Anecdotal evidence it not the same as statistical data.
After all, when I stated that drivers of black BMWs acted like psychopaths in their driving style (which is obviously anecdotal evidence - albeit the same evidence around the globe), you mocked me.
But, as it’s now acceptable to you:
This post:
Black BMW.
This week I nearly got wiped out. Car driver overtook two cycles on narrow, but otherwise completely empty road, just as I was cycling at around 50Km/h the other way and nearly hit me. They could have waited one second to pull out on an otherwise clear road but no.
Black BMW.
You’ve got your anecdotal evidence. I’ve got mine. There’s really nothing more to say.
Exactly. I asked you to stfu several posts ago.
What the author demands is irrelevant, the onus is on the cyclist, generally speaking. The danger is the reason why overtaking on the right is forbidden by default, and only allowed under certain conditions.
You’ll recall the case in Zürich from 2-ish years ago where a cyclist collided with a Betonmischer, a concrete container truck, when it turned right. Turns out the cyclist was in the dead corner the entire time, the driver doesn’t get prosecuted.
Always position yourself between vehicles, never next to one regardless of its size, it’s in everybody’s best interests.
If there is a cycle lane, cyclists can proceed past motor vehicle traffic (which, by default, will be on the left).
So not forbidden.
At junctions, cyclists and moped riders using cycle paths or cycle lanes along roads have the right of way. This rule also applies if there is no cycle lane.
It’s true that cyclists should avoid putting themselves in a vehicle’s blindspot, even if they have the right of way (for example, at junctions).
But, there will always be a point when a cyclist is in the blind spot - either when the truck or bus driver is overtaking the cyclist, or the cyclist is passing the vehicle, whilst in the cycle lane.
I think this case could have gone either way to be honest depending on the bias of the judge.
I think both cyclists and car drivers should have more training on dangers involved with lorries and buses. Most car drivers seem totally ignorant on the space a lorry needs when turning and invariably get in the way, impeding all traffic.
Agreed. Cycle ways stop just before junctions. This is the point cyclists should adopt a more primary road position - so they can be seen, and cannot be overtaken, or narrowly passed on the junction.
@Belgianmum - you were active on this thread last night. Can I ask why @komsomolez was allowed to use this phrase twice in one night with no action from you?
Is it acceptable now and if so, why?
Yes, I was sarcastic in one post but everyone is always asking for data to back up a statement made.
Is STFU allowed as a response to sarcasm?
Maybe you are unware as to it’s meaning?
I saw this, but since neither post was flagged, I figured you were man enough to handle it. Otherwise, if you seek action on these posts, the first step is to flag it for moderator review.
I saw it and am well aware of its meaning but it wasn’t flagged and frankly I had far more important things to be dealing with like helping my friend deal with the aftermath of her husband’s death and all the things that needed to be done.
Fair enough but I had an hour or so to spare last night waiting whilst one of my kids was on the operating room table at the local hospital and I thought I’d have a look at the forum to pass the time, posted a reply to you offering sympathy and an answer to someone else and then got told to “shut the fuck up” twice by someone who doesn’t like my posts.
@Phil_MCR: Yes, I’m man enough to handle it but that wasn’t my point. Anyway, it’s good to know that anything goes unless it is flagged. That’s going to be great for newbies.
I can never understand why you (and Koms, for that matter) must see everything in black and white, no shades of grey. It makes you very vulnerable to trolling, and half of Koms’ posts seem to fall mighty close to that, IMO.
Of course if a moderator sees something that they feel clearly crosses the line they’ll deal with it, for other things such as this, and really in the context of the acrimonious discussions between the two of you this is not exactly extreme, then they’ll rely on flagging of posts to raise it to their attention and take action accordingly.
It’s how the flagging is supposed to work, just like you could report a post in the old EF. Doesn’t in any way mean that just because no-one else has flagged something means that the content is acceptable. Opinions on what is or is not OK vary a lot, so it can help a mod tremendously if they’re wondering about a post that other users are flagging it too.
A simple STFU doesn’t seem particularly grave considering the posters involved. Regardless of the involved it is far less severe than an attack on someone’s psychological health. In fact, coming from a “mod”, BM’s attack is pretty much a free pass for anything and everything.
TBF though that was directed at the angry monkey, so I would put it firmly in the “helpful advice” category.
I thought it was totally off and a personal attack in a thread with aspects of mental health and wellbeing. Sure, I joked about the subject of dogs for cheap laughs but that wasn’t like BM’s post which was on a different level.
Once, technically.
I just spent a couple of hours on the bike, highly recommended. My standard lap is 90-95% farm roads and peaceful and safe. Now I come back and see a lot of whiny posts from someone who says he is “man enough”. It is hilarious.
And now I will have a beer.
