Protein Whey

Decathlon. Across the border.

With the summer coming a VERY nice refreshing protein drink i have been using for a long time is called 4everfit Fruit Blast. It only has 21g. of protein per serving but it taste like juice so you can have a few!!!

Sweeten with xylitol & stevia , it comes in different flavors. Bodybuilding.com carries it i believe...

Try Almased. This is also suitable for vegetarians. I buy it from rheincentre apotheke inside the main shopping area of Marktkauf. Search Almased on net. it is quite filling but is quite tasteless. u may need to add coffee or coco powder etc to bring out soem taste. i drink it with lactose free skimmed milk as breakfast shake in the morning.

Since the whey protein here has a 'Swiss price', I get mine delivered from Germany. Because it's food, the Zoll limit is not 60 but 200 CHF.

Last week I ordered 3 boxes of Optimum Nutritiun Whey at

http://www.vitalymp-sportnahrung.de/

They send it to Switzerland for 12,50 EUR and even substract the German tax on the products. This made the Optimum Nutrition 2,2 kg box sell at only 49,44 EUR a piece.

Make sure you stay under the 200 CHF limit with your goods plus shipping though, otherwise the evil men at Post will send you a bill

Posted an answer but got deleted. Awkward...

Probably got removed as spam, as might this one...

You posted 5 of them today. One is enough thanks

Ok, thanks for letting me know why my post got deleted. Hmmm, I've seen website owners (I am not one of them) clearly advertising their stores and not getting deleted.

Anyways, thanks for leaving at least one of my posts. BTW - if I was a spammer, I guess I would be more smart

I still order protein and supplements from "home" through iherb.com

for me its the cheapest way to deal with and they have a huge amount of products. so far I haven't pay taxes, cause I always order less than 150$ and then the shipping is only 4$ (takes about 10days). with this gift code GMC519 you save 10$.

Does anyone know if there're swiss supplements producer? if so I probably would order from them...but so far I only notice intermediaries which are to expensive.

Good to see this post still going!

I personally think the best price for CH can be found at http://www.vitalymp-sportnahrung.de/ for whey.

Thanks all!

For over two years now I've imported the stuff. Because, seriously, you can't pay for it in Switzerland. The Migros and their sports-branch SportX have protein but that tastes vile and it's 60 CHF for 750g. That's insane.

Thus, I rely on www.bulkpowders.co.uk and www.myprotein.co.uk (they're fierce competitors and hate each other with a passion - it's quite funny, really) to get my all my supplementary needs. I have never been disappointed.

However, there's one catch. Occasionally, the DHL-people who deliver myprotein's stuff, they have issues finding addresses. So it's best to keep track of your orders and don't just go "Oh, this will come here soon on its own." It's a bit of a hassle, but you save a ton of money.

... and the protein shakes taste better.

Just out of interest, why do people buy protein powder when you could just have a chicken breast or a piece of fish? Apparently you can get all the protein you need from your food?

Isn't it a bit of a pricey option for something you could just pick up in your diet?

You know I wonder that too. The same goes for vitamins. Why do people swallow pills instead of eating balanced meals with vegetables and fruit?

This question has been asked before.

Apparently, one answer was that so the people didn't need to actually cook anything.

(they spend so long looking at themselves in the mirror that they don't have time!)

Aha, that's why so many people complain about plain food in Switzerland.

It is obviously (I kind of facepalm when I need to explain this stuff, as it really is common sense if you think about it) a way to get extra amounts of protein in addition to a 'normal' diet. Not everyone has the time or discipline to come home after a heavy gym workout and cook a ton of meat (you actually need a lot of protein if you are trying to put on some bulk, and that does not always fit with appetites)... and it's also not always great to eat so much in the evening before bed (it really affects my sleep). A protein shake directly after a workout plus a healthy chicken or tuna salad gives you the extra protein you need to fuel some muscle building. Then also in the morning, a simple bowl of oats and a protein shake gives you the next dose.

Is it as effective as having a pure diet and eating like a horse every day? No, but then again I'm only trying to improve my body mass and shape for modest health and strength reasons, not looking to join weights competitions.

Again, you really can't see why people do it? Really, even when you give your grey matter a good stretch? They are there not to replace nutrition got through normal foods, but to supplement (hence the term, "supplements") an imperfect diet that doesn't give you everything you need.

Sorry that you thought it necessary for a facepalm but it was just a question.

I was just asking because the question of "how much is too much" came up recently. A friend of my mum has just been through hell because her grandson, who was trying to bulk himself up after being teased at school (poor kid is 18 and probably has not yet filled out naturally), completely over-did it on protein supplements and extra protein in his meals and ended up in hospital having collapsed at the gym.

His doctor has effectively "banned" him from protein supplements and sorted him out with a diet which naturally increases his protein.

Sorry I can't stretch my grey matter so far. I still don't get it. I believe in "mens sana in corpore sano" and not in "mens infirma in corpore artificious"

While I'm sorry to hear that, it's an exceptional circumstance, not the norm. You can get poisoning from drinking too much water too.

Ahem. Right.

It all depends what you want to achieve with your body, in combination with your body type. Losing fat? Don't care too much about supplements. Keeping current level of fitness? Probably also not worth it. But trying to improve strength, stamina or just bulk up for great feeling or ladies chasing? Then you need a LOT of proteins, especially if you're naturally slim (like me).

There are gazillions of formulas about how much protein to take, but one of most common is your-body-weight x 1.5 or more, supplemented by plenty of water during whole day. For me that translates to at least 130g of pure protein that my body needs to actually grow (and even then, it's super lazy, curse of really slim people. Benefit is almost no body fat no matter what or how much I eat). Plus digestion-heavy food like red meat cannot be broken down with 100% efficiency. Plus many people (like me) do gym always during lunch break to have an actual life in evening, and proper meal at restaurant after gym is simply not an option. Hence you supplement regular meals, which cannot provide you these amounts of protein.

Nobody here wrote about actually substituting the meals, so no need to get cocky.
