PSP or NINTENDO DS, which is better for 7 & 4 year old ?

We had a problem with this, but the poor little buggers aren't up to the level of skulduggery required. It's easy to tell they're DSing, simply because the amount of bedtime shenanigans drops off to zero, and that's just not normal.

DSing in bed now comes with a free 1 week DS ban. That threat basically puts a stop to it.

cheers,

thats what makes Nintendo boring. the same games since 1973 over and over again, only on a new platform. PS3!

My friend told me.... (That okay Lob? After getting busted last week for the pirate bay link)

That if you downgrade the firmware on a PSP with a custom version from a guy called DarkAlex (Google is your friend) then you are able to download PSP games to memory cards.

Obviously as a back up and to preserve the original copy in mint condition..

Seems strong but fair, you would have had a lot more problems with me but I'm cunning haha

A friend of mine told me *cough* something similar is possible for the DS

Yup - you can even buy special card-reading cartridges for the DS online.

A few of my friends at CERN have a DS and they swear by them. In fact, I've been meaning to buy one for myself for months now - thanks for reminding me!

I read in some feedback reports (Amazon, etc) that the Nintendo DS has a problem with the plastic hinge closest to the power supply which develops a stress crack that happens with simple everyday use and eventually such crack could be big enough to render the unit unplayable. Has anyone had this problem? Do you know by chance how does Nintendo deal with the warranty in these cases? thanks

Hi, I have a Nintendo DS, and I am not exactly 'gentle' with my stuff. I've only had it about four months but it looks like new and no signs of wear and tear. The warranty covers any manufacturing defects, but not wear and tear. I don't really see how the hinge should develop stress fractures with normal use.

The memory trainer is great, although I did feel like a bit of a dolt the first couple of times I played it it really puts you in your place!

Can I ask a question about the Wii. We're moving from England to CH in a few weeks. SHould I buy one here in London or is it cheaper to buy it there? Will the British Wii work here? Thanks in advance for any response.

best, aggie

Generally its cheaper to buy them in the UK because of the package offers you get. (I did a lot of research into this before buying mine in the UK when I was over for a weekend), however check out www.digitec.ch as they often have deals on certail colours of wii that make it worth buying it over here.

I am also thinking of buying a wii. If I buy a wii (and all the bits and bobs) in the UK, and then buy a Swiss television, will it still work? UK TVs do work in Switzerland, correct?

The other completely legitimate reason is because you can then store a few memory cards into the slots where the disc would normally go, and have 15-20 games on-hand without having to carry around anything more than the PSP itself. They also load a lot a faster.

Get a MS<->microSD converter, and it's even better, since mSD cards are about the size of your thumbnail (and they only cost about half as much as well).

EDIT: The same applies to the DS cards. Since DS games are generally tiny (32-64M), you can fit nearly 100 games on a ~CHF10 4G memory card. Note that if anyone is thinking of getting one, the DS cards cost ridiculously more in Switzerland compared to anywhere else (~CHF70 vs around US$15). It also means the little terrors won't walk out with a carry case full of games and then leave them on a park bench somewhere.

If your TV has an appropriate input. The Wii can output to (from memory) SCART, Component, S-Video and VGA.

Assuming you're going to buy a reasonably decent LCD or Plasma TV, you should get at least an S-Video, SCART and a couple of Component inputs.

So, the short answer is "yes".

I am about to buy my daughter a birthday gift, and thought that I would ask YOU which one you prefer, and why? Or...basically...I am leaning towards getting the Nintendo...

I am clueless on these devices, so..which one do you think is the 'coolest'. My daugher is 6, and well....because she likes pink , wants the Nintendo...girls will be girls!

Any experience..plse tell/help!

Hi there,

I think the Nintendo DS would be better. I have one and have let my nieces (5 & 7) play with it and they love it.

The graphics are a little bit simpler than the PSP but i think the DS offers more versatility for the younger ones (eg colour of console, range of games and better interactivity with the touch screen).

Although to be honest, it's as much for the adults as it is for the kids!!

Tola

If you look under "Similar Threads" below, you'll find two longer threads on this exact topic. The consensus appears to be the usual one - if your kids are younger than 10 years or so, get the DS. If they're older, it depends on what kind of games they like to play (and in that case, they probably know exactly which one they want).

Il b honest, for the younger crowd and the girls, the nintendo DS is THE xmas present! the psp is more for slightly older boys! its as much a gadget than a portable game station. Has kool stuff, such as mp3 player, access to inet, videos and other neat stuff

...but as far as playing games goes, im not sure there is a huge selection of games on the psp that would b syuted for young girls! I would say, Nintendo is the way forward, esp in pink! I actually like the nintendo ds... some really cool interactive games! i enjoyed playing the brain game!

hope she likes it!

Thanks you all. Typically me...I have searched on the threads, but did not find anything...So, thanks for the tip that I shouls scroll down on my pc, I have now seen the similar threads, and will definately look there! Thanks ever so much!
