Public Transport in Basel

Hi Everybody!

This is my first message on this great forum. It is excellent to see that is possible to clarify some doubts even before we arrive to Switzerland.

About me I will arrive next Sunday to Basel and I will be there for 3 months.

Since I will be in some different places during these months, and some of them are quite far from the centre I would like to ask you for some suggestion concerning the transport. I'm almost sure that the best option is the subscription of a monthy pass, but nothing best than ask.

For example I will be sometimes in Bottmingen, St. Johann and Airport.

What do you suggest? I still don't have a Residency Permit, so do you think it is possible to have one on my arrival??

Cheers and Muito Obrigado ;-)

I forgot to ask if the monthly pass includes transport to the near places from France and Germany. I thought that probably buying there the food is cheaper than in Switzerland.

Also waiting for your suggestion regarding this topic

In my experience, no you don't have to carry it. When I get checked, about half the time they don't ask for any ID, the annual pass is enough. The other half of the time I show my Swedish national ID card and I never had any issues.
