Push Button Light Switches

Excellent thanks all. Having had a quote for the work which was outrageous I will do it myself. Just having an additional socket mounted on the way was almost 400 chf and he literally just ran the cable along the skirting board in one of those horrible plastic cable covers.

We had one repaired under an insurance claim and they did the same.

If I had know, I would have done it (better) myself.

A good tip for changing sockets/switches etc - use your phone and take clear photos of all the wire connections etc before you remove any of them. That way - if it doesn't work, you've got something to work with if you've made a mistake with the wires.

OK so I went to Hornbach, got a sch3 switch and now the light stays on. Any ideas?

Does the other switch turn the lamp off?

You've wired it incorrectly and bypassed the switch. You'll just need to check your wiring - also against the old switch.

I think it’s the wrong switch as this one only seems to have two channels where as I need three.

The other sch3 has 3 channels where as this one only has two. I realised that as each channel has two cable inputs. The one only had 4 overall. I’ll go back to Hornbach tomorrow and look again. Perhaps as this is a switch with a socket it’s different.

The pdf on this link shows you the wiring for most Feller switches

The push button switches are popular because it is much easier to convert them to the type that automatically switches off before you reach the next one when you are laden down with shopping.

Just an update on my issue. It was the correct switch but for some reason the switch comes with a bridge built in from the socket live to the lights switched live hence no matter which switch I pressed it was always on.

This is removable which to the average DIY person would never spot. Having removed this it works as expected now. It just pops out.
