I am currently planning to marry a Swiss citizen and am a Canadian citizen. I am working online for a Canadian company and plan to continue doing so in Switzerland.
I know Switzerland and Canada have a tax treaty to prevent citizens from paying double taxes, but beyond that, know very little about the practicalities of how to wisely file taxes in this situation. As I will be working for a Canadian company, it makes sense to pay taxes as I would if living in Canada, but given that I will need to pay for all various costs/health insurance etc of living in Switzerland, I wanted to ask if anyone knows if there are options to what country we pay taxes to? Is there a way to divert some of my taxes to Switzerland for example or pay less taxes to Canada so I can divert those monies to costs associated to residing in Switzerland.
If anyone has navigated a similar situation of working remotely for a Canadian company and living in Switzerland, I would greatly appreciate any guidance or insights. I am still a resident of Canada and have not filed anything to become a non-resident in Canada as I'm still here and in the process of trying to analyze the next best steps.
THANK you in advance for your help!
