I’m a non-EU citizen working for a Swiss company on a permit B as a software engineer. Back in my home country, I had some experience doing freelance and I enjoyed the freedom associated with it. Now, I feel the need for a change in life, so I’d like to take some time off and either do freelancing or launch a small business or both.
But the question is how to preserve Swiss residency? As I’ve been living here for 3 years (Vaud canton), I’d be reluctant to leave the country.
Has anyone here done the switch from employment to self-employment? How does it work? At the Vaud’s website , they say when updating my permit next time I’ll have to provide the info on my company such as projected revenue, business plan etc. What are the requirements to those? How much money the business need to make and for how long for the authorities to be satisfied? How realistic is such a switch from employment to independent in practice when it comes to retaining the permit? Anything else I need to know?
