Thanks for the replies, even the unhelpful and sarcastic ones.
It was my error to assume that the tax would have been deducted at source seeing I'm on a B-permit. I received an Exemplar der Steuererklärung beilegen for the period Oct-Dec 2021 from RAV, which I submitted to my Tax Consultant. Even then it was not brought to my attention that tax wasn't deducted for those three months, which of course would have been very helpful!
I mistook the Steuerbarer betrag as the amount paid as tax.
I was on RAV for a few months this year. Mid-year, we moved Kanton and my husband changed from a B-permit to a C-permit. We were requested to submit our 2021 tax information a good few weeks ago, as my husband is now taxed provisionally. It is all new and this was also my first and hopefully last time on RAV. It was all a bit upside down for a while I'm afraid.
Since my new employment, my tax is deducted at source for my salaried income, so I am certain that I won't have the same problem there.
Apologies to those who I have offended. I will most definitely continue to educate myself, and also educate my expat friends and colleagues going forward, so that they don't end up in the same situation.
@AbFab, for the record, I received a Steuerverwaltung pink payment slip with the amount due, dated 20.11.2021. This letter was sent to our Tax Consultants, who in turn mailed all our relevant tax forms to us. The payment date on the pink slip states zahlbar bis 20.12.2021 for "Rate 2021, zu bezahlende Akontorechnung CHF xxx" (rate 2021, invoice on account to be paid CHF xxx). That definitely does make it payable in the next few days! 9 working days to be exact.
@Biro
I fully accept personal responsibility, hence requesting the 2021 Exemplar from the Arbeitslossenkasse which they can not provide, seeking information and knowledge on the matter, and most importantly, paying my tax bill!
It just would have been nice if someone was kind enough to share this information as a heads-up, that's all. This information is not freely available.
One can only learn from this and hopefully help others that may face unemployment.
Have a good evening all.
