I am a certified teacher and reading specialist (US certified) living in the Zurich area. I was told that working as an independent contractor was verboten on my B-visa. I do work (gratis) with a handful of students with dyslexia but now have the opportunity to work virtually with students overseas.
As a non-EU (American) on a B visa (accompanied spouse), is there a way I can make this type of work nicht verboten? I thought perhaps the issue was payroll and taxes, but the Gemeinde only said I was "not allowed to do this type of work."
I'd appreciate any insight. I despise not working in my chosen profession and would like to find a way to make this work.
Short answer is no, you can’t be self-employed. You must be employed by a Swiss employer.
Her husband (or anyone else who is suitable) should set up a company in Switzerland and then employ her to teach students with dyslexia overseas).
There's that old Swiss saying:
"Rules are made to be broken".
