I'm sorry, I haven't seen those but I have noticed recently an "improved" (to my inexperienced eye anyhow) selection of Indian prepared sauces and sides at Coop - specifically the new one at Voltaplatz. They carry a selection of Patak brand stuff I've seen advertised on the UK channels is what I noticed, including a quite spicy tikka masala - "tasty" for me, "hair on fire" for hubby.

I am less sure of their selection of vegetarian offerings although I have noticed they have Quorn (however it is spelled, spell check doesn't like it) products but hadn't paid attention to the variety.

You can find them at most Indian stores around Basel. For example,

there is one across Basel SBB (behind Interdiscount/Burger king on Küchengasse 9).

oh.. tkn! THANK YOU!

I trust you but if you are pulling my leg..

I KILL YOU!

I have seen ready to eat Asian food in the refrigerated section of Migros, Spar and I think also at Coop. Brand name Anna's. Fairly decent quality of Indian options. Doesn't really compare to authentic -home cooked but not bad at all. (and I should know 'coz I am Indian )

Cheesykiwi,

There other ready-to-eat Indian items available at Migros and Coop too, as someone already mentioned.

However, I am a little picky...I prefer a particular brand that is more authentic than the others.

But in case you want to make Indian food at home, you can use the ready-to-cook spice mixtures like the below.

I often go to Aggarwals just off Langstrasse to stock up on Indian ingredients. They have a good selection of Indian vegetarian curries on offer which are perfect for a lazy day in the kitchen.

The brand is Haldirams Minute Khana (à la minute food) and they have ready made vegetarian dishes like Dal Makhani, Rajma, Kadhai Paneer, Paneer Makhani, Punjabi Kadhi, Purani Delhi Choley, etc...

They are authentic and imo really very good. Far far better than the ready made selection at Migros or Coop which are too mild & sweet for my taste.

Here's a link to the Haldirams range of food so you know what the packaging looks like:

I don't think u'll find anything better in CH.

Check out Aggarwal Shop at Claragraben 78 in Basel. You can get the Haldiram brand of ready made items there as suggested by Me, Myself & I.

One at Claraplatz as well, you can't miss it, it has the India Flag colors as the roof top colors. It's my home away from home!

P.S. Pataks is a wonderful treat when you want something quick and yummy!

A Haldiram's minute Khana 3.5Fr (no preservatives 100% natural (in english! 4% fat 13% Sodium?!!! Oh.. this is percentage daily intake *phew* ah.. 1.6 % Fat, 3% protein and 7% carbs per 100g. YUMYUM)

Right, Haldirams is the best. My favourite ones from their line are :

Navratan korma, Palak Paneer, Dal Makhani , Aloo Matar.

These go great with heated tortillas or rice.

(Raseele Rajma is too spicy , even for an Indian palate.)
