Several folk have mentioned it, but I don’t think we had a reply. If you bought it, have you the bill or receipt. Mine have a recycling comment which means I have already paid for it to be recycled. Up till now, the same folk who brought a new one, took the old one without question.
If I had spent as much time as you have trying to find a solution, I’d ring the local council and say that it is no wonder that junk gets dumped in the woods, and would they please be so kind as to tell me what I can legally do with the freezer. If they were non cooperative it would be another reader’s letter (which worked wonders with the local council and police last time).
Hopefully, this will clear it up once and for all.
Did you go through these links? I started the trek.
”Used refrigerators can be returned free of charge to over 500 official collection points throughout Switzerland of the Stiftung Entsorgung Schweiz , SENS (Foundation for Disposal Switzerland) and to all retail outlets. In addition, the CDS Cargo Domizil AG (tel. [031 385 93 93](tel:031 385 93 93)) provides a pick-up service for appliances.”
In another link it says that the firm must take them even when a replacement article is not purchased.
This doesn’t actually help much if the firms are uncooperative when he contacts them.
They just need to be reminded of what the law says. In any case, there’s usually a dump around the back of the shops where appliances can be dumped. There’s no need for phone calls
Maybe the Entsorgungspark in Pfäffikon SZ, Industriestrasse 2, would be the easiest and nearest solution for you. Their list specifically says Kühlschränke.
For some obscure reason, around here the Recycling ‚Places‘ (Stellen) have a limited list of things they accept, the Recyling ‚Parks‘ take more.
The idea that you can dispose of a fridge in a park but not at a recycling place is interesting!
We’ve ‘inherited’ an old exercise bike as part of our house move. Does anyone happen to know whether they are covered by this?
Typically electronics and scrap metal are free to dispose/recycle.
Thank you. I’ve recycled small electronics before now without issue but this is new territory. I shall take it to the local recycling centre.
If it’s still working you could ask your local charity shop if they’ll take it or put it on ricardo.ch. some supermarkets also have noticeboards where you can advertise an item.
Update from my side:
I went to the address above and asked. They have a secondary shop close by, with a back door. Next to this back door, they have a bunch of elecronic appliances stacked. They just told me to leave it there, and they will be taken care of.
That washing machine in the photo looks almost brand new!
