Renewing an expired B permit/applying for a work permit as a self employed person

I am a British citizen and I was previously a resident in Switzerland on a B permit from August 2014 - August 2019. I gave up my B permit to move to a different country and I was wondering if anyone is aware if I am able to re apply for a B permit based on the UK CH withdrawal agreement on the 25.02.2019 even though I voluntarily gave up my residence permit in August 2019?

I would like to move to Switzerland again and to do so, I am in the process of applying for a work permit as self employed as I am currently in the process of starting my own start up (service provider related). Has anyone any experience or can offer any guidance with this?

The agreement only applies to those UK nationals who were resident in Switzerland when it came into force.

“b) United Kingdom nationals who exercised their right to reside in Switzerland in accordance with the FMOPA before the specified date and continue to reside
there thereafter;”

You left the country so non-EU rules apply to you and you won’t be able to be self-employed here.

Thank you for your reply regarding B permit renewal.

Just so you're aware that Switzerland does allow work permit applications as self employed professional for third country citizens and I confirmed this with the Arbeitsbeziehungen & Einigungsamt Arbeitsbewilligungen office (Amt für Wirtschaft und Arbeit). I know of at least 3 non EU citizens who have successfully applied but this was way back in 2017/18 and I was just hoping to hear from someone who has done this more recently

I don’t see how since it’s up to the Swiss employer to apply for a permit on your behalf. You can’t apply for one yourself far as I know. Swiss employers have to justify why they can’t find a Swiss/EU national who could do the job and the emphasis is to hire people who already live/work here.

As far as I am aware, Switzerland has allowed this for a number of years, at least since 2017 and I was pleasantly surprised during my conversations with the Amt für Wirtschaft und Arbeit office that even start up's are eligible, subject to relevant work permit quota of course.

Yes, but then there is that part of having sufficient financial means, being an asset to the economy etc etc. And that is not lightly granted.

Oh absolutely!! I very well aware of time this process takes (up to 6 months) and the requirements are very stringent....but hey if I don't try I will never know... :-)
