Residence permit attached to canton?

Hi there...

i have just got my residence permit approved...

but have a few questions....from the permit, it is shown that it is being applied in canton Zug...

and

1) i have to register to the registration office within 14 days of my arrival... so my question is do i need to register it in Zug? or in the canton of my office? or in the canton that i PLANNED to live?

2) if residence permit was apply from Zug, does it means that i HAVE to live in Zug?

3) or it is actually non-canton related? and i suppose i could stay anywhere i desired in any canton?

Anyone can help to shed some lights?? Thanks.

Oh..and a be-early christmas wishes to all of you!

Your employer needs to apply for a work permit in the Kanton where you work. Take their confirmation that you have applied for a permit to the kanton where you want to live when you register there. Your residence permit will be issued from the kanton where you live. If you have no confirmation within 14 days then go to the office in your kanton and explain. This is what we did, but it was back in 2002.

I few years ago, non-EU B Permit holders had to live in the Kanton where they worked. If you are EU then you can live wherever you like.

I'm non-EU with a B Permit, i have recently arrived i have been told by my company's HR team i can live in any canton

i hv just got the latest update....

the permit i have received is a L Permit...

but then again, since the company is going to be resposible on my permit renewal and etc... i guessed i wouldnt need to worry abt it......

But the again i read from this thread, L-permit holders need to stay at where it was issued...

Any updates and confirmation on this?

We were L permit holders. I think it depends on whether you are EU whether you are free live in another kanton.

Zug is a nice place to live too --and you can bike/walk to work

I'd like to know how this works out for you. I'm also non-EU with a B permit, and I have a work permit approval (indefinite duration) from canton Aargau and a visa from the Swiss consulate. I show up in CH in ~10 days. And I'm wondering if I can live in another canton (Zurich maybe) and commute to work in Aargau...

i have an interesting update,

my company just informed me that the L-Permit i will be having is NOT attached to the place i stay, they mentioned that i could take up residence even in Luzern or Zurich, even though it was approved from Zug...

hmmm.....

Is it normal for non-EEA residents to be issued an L permit?

I think for all first timer.... the dept will only issue the L-Permit

Just thought that i should update my details here...

I received my NEW CREDIT CARD size B-Permit today....

and it wasnt that much of wait for it....because i was worried from some posts i read that people wait for months for it.

I arrived on 24th.Feb, register myself with the local office in Zug on 27.Feb, and 10.Mar i hv the permit in hand (within 2 weeks).

It is a B one year permit up for renewal in 2010.

Cheers

Congratulations! If only our Malaysian MyKad could learn from the security features....

oh yah... i saw lots of security card on the permit... awesome.. even my signature is on it!
