Restaurant Recommendations for Tessin/Ticino

Muggiotal: Osteria Manciana in Scudellate

(the last village in a valley time forgot)

People drive up through the picturesque valley just to eat here. They specialize in Tessiner dishes and it's all homemade. Osso buca (corrected) with polenta (the specialty of the house) is perfect and my gnocchi (which I rarely enjoy) made me realize how good it can be when made correctly. It literally melted in my mouth; it was that creamy. The menu choice is limited but their homemade dishes are out of this world.

Great prices, friendly staff and a gorgeous view. If you want to impress your out of town guests while visiting nearby Mendrisio, then go, go, go. But don't forget to reserve first just to make sure they'll have a table waiting for you.

PS: English is spoken there

That sounds wonderful!

I'm tired of seeing Zuri Gschnäzlets and Kalbsbratwurst with that onion gravy on Swiss menus

If you're in the region, just over the border past Ponte Tresa in the Val Ganna I can recommend Panigacci (which is also the name of their specialty)

Osso buco (oss bus in local lingo), NOT ossabuca!

We had a family birthday there many years ago...the food was exquisite and the hostess/chef (Pierina, now retired in favour of her son's wife) was a force of nature! The polenta-stirring machine went all the time.

in Morcote right on the Lugano Lake Ristorante della torre

we had great service, great food and great location.
