Hi everyone. I spent a long while searching for info here but I don’t find someone that had similar situation working in my field.
I’m a Senior UX designer (salary 120k) living and working in Geneva.
Got an offer in Zug (125k).
The salary offered is a huge let down but I’m still very excited with this offer as the environment (and company) is much more dynamic than the one I’m currently working for.
Long story short, I’m trying to find reasons to accept this offer even though the salary is not what I expected.
Here I spend about 3k monthly (rent, food, etc) and manage to save 3k at least each month.
Two questions then:
1. Is this salary (125k) enough for a young couple in Zug without children? My wife is not working at the moment. The idea is to be able to save a bit more than the 3k monthly as I currently save here. We won’t live in Zug and we’ll be looking for a low tax canton to live nearby. We are a very chill couple and careful with money.
2. Someone know if 125k is a fair salary for a senior UX designer in Zug?
I was expecting 140-150k 😅... so I don’t know if my expectations were too high for such role in the German side.

I don't think salaries are much higher here considering you were in Geneva before. And would agree there is no reason to live in ZG since the difference in tax savings will be offset by the higher rent and smaller places you will get for your money.
Zug is literally the lowest tax canton so stay there, you’ll save loads vs Geneva on tax
I think you answered your own question. Money isn’t everything; if you feel you’d be happier working at the new company then go for it.
And yes, Zug is the lowest tax canton, but that can be offset by higher rents and other things. If you can save 3k a month in Geneva I don’t think you’d have any problems saving that or a bit more elsewhere in Switzerland.
Also Zug is way more quieter than Geneva if you want abit of night life.
Tight market for renting at the moment, despite many Russians moving out.
If you find a good, reasonably priced apartment then will be fine. Zug is probably cheaper in many ways than Geneva, and of course there's the tax saving.
You cannot quantify in monetary terms the upside to moving anywhere that’s not Geneva.
