Question for the EF panel of medical experts.

I've been dogged by salivary gland pain for some years and am almost getting cumulus points with the ENT specialist.

It is probably small stones that are tiny enough to fool an MRI scan (had one of those) and to date the ENT specialist has opted for the conservative approach of antibiotics with infection / flare-ups, hydration, lemony ricola. But it never really goes. He has so far shied away from surgery to remove as this can be risky for nerves in the cheeks needed for speech etc.

I did a bit of Googling of late - it seems that sialendoscopy is a new method / treatment whereby a probe is inserted into the salivary duct and can then look for obstructions and remove small stones etc.

It seems this is now available in Zurich and I am summoning up the courage to ask my ENT specialist to refer me to this outfit at USZ.

Over to the panel - has anyone had this treatment? How easy was it to get referred? Did it work? Did the Krankenkasse pay - and if not how much did it cost?

I’ve never had a procedure like that, nevertheless, for sure your basic insurance will cover it if it is performed at a cantonal hospital.

Update: I had an appointment with my ENT chap this morning. I was referred to USZ without me having to ask. And there I was all geared up for a battle to get referred.
