Same sex partner visa or permit

We are US citizens and my partner is in the final interview stage for a job in Basel with Novartis. We have been together for 10 years (easily documented) but live in Texas so there are no gay marriage or civil unions.

How does it work for me and how long will it take? What about living in France or Germany but working in Switzerland?

1. Just scroll down this thread and you will find some information.

2. On the right upper corner of your screen you will find a so called "Search-Function". Try to google that.

3. Get information from gay sites mentioned in threads found following Step 1 and 2

Come over, get married.

By the way...welcome to the Forum

That's enough. Unlike heterosexual couples you don't need to be married to register your partnership.

thanks for the info. I knew it had to easier than here in the States.

Will I be able to find a job there or do I have to be self employed?

If you get B permits you will most likely have the right to work.

btw - without that right you can't be self employed either.

besides permit issues -- do you speak German? The language is the largest barrier by far for finding employment.

on a side note -- where in Texas are you coming from? I moved from just outside of Dallas 3 years ago and married my Swiss partner -- couldn't be happier and can't imagine living back there any longer. So nice to have a legally recognized relationship -- sweet freedom at last.

@jachensnacher

I am interviewing with Novartis at the moment and I have the exact same question. My partner and I are also ten years together! Just wondering if you indeed did move to Basel and if so, whether you have any advice?!

Thanks in advance!

Erik

You live in Chicago?! I lived there for 6 months a while back. Absolutely marvellous place. Must be one of the most fascinating cities in the world! Nothing to do with your question, but just wanted to express my appreciation of a great city! Switzerland will be, how can I put it, somewhat different!

As I know if you are US citizens ( same nationality ) and one of them is going to get a job in Switzerland, one will get the working permit L or B and maybe you will get you a resident permit but you can not working.

The only way is if someone of you have a boyfriend in Switzerland ( have to be a Swiss Citizen and US Citizen ) even in France and Germany is the same rule.

In my experience, my boyfriend ( Swiss Citizen ) was working in Switzerland and the the company send him to Paris for working and me I am not Swiss and I am not French and I got in France just a resident permit for stay there but I can not working.

Maybe the guy who is going to get the job, have to asking before or in the company can help him with these permit.
