Schooling in geneva, coppet/nyon or areas near

High school is still a public school, as in free of charge, but there are exams to get in. Most students start a 3-4 year vocational training after 9th grade, which includes working in a business doing on the job training as well as about 2 days per week (or blocks) of school with other students learning the same kind of trade/job. There is vocational training for just about any job or trade. In Canada the equivalent school part of this training would usually be a college course or diploma.

If you are just looking at public school for grade 9 to learn French, that could work, you just can't expect her to be able to move on to public high school afterwards. High school usually starts in grade 10. In some cantons an earlier entry is possible just to make things more confusing, lol.

Thank you so much! I think it's called apprenticeship? So they still have exams for public schools, in what subjects? Math&french I'm assuming. No, we were just thinking 9th grade for French, and the rest if high school in English, unless she wants to continue in French. Thank you very much, hope to hear back soon

I am not sure about Vaud, but I think the exams are in Maths, French and German.

Yes, the vocational training is called an apprenticeship.

I would say it is going to be a very big challenge for your daughter at that age.

Unless she is very willing to learn French..... But It could be better for her accademic skillss to focus on the english curriculum....

that s true for foreigner in public school but rather in primarily school. Since familly likely negociate for international school for their children when they have high school age..!! .

Chanvanes de Bogis is really cute. transportation ok but a bit far from the train. at least you have buses to drop you to train station. No worries for security although do not think robber don't cross the border.!! Just be careful not to leave hand bags in an openned car....!! But this area is nice and quite safe... And Chavannes Center is next door and a lot of expats are there...!!!

Have an nice we

First to the tapwater. Drinking tapwater, also from public fountains, is safe all over Switzerland. Nobody ever had "health issues"

Second, it is expected that you reduce noise to "room level" after 10 PM , which means that a party can go on as long as the people do not produced excessive noise

Third, shopping hours vary. Many larger stores are open until 8 PM or 9 PM or 10 PM . Some shops at petrol stations are open 24 hours. The shopping centres at major rail-stations and at airports are also open on Sundays

4th, the schools. "Public schools" in Switzerland are state owned general schools on all levels. In larger cities, private school exists, but are supervised by the education authorities and have to accept and push through the general standards.

Just check out with the Department of Education of Canton de Vaud or Geneva: I know some colleges have bilingual courses.

Geneva: +41 22 546 59 00

Vaud: +41 21 316 30 30

And don't worry, Switzerland isn't in lost in the african bush or elsewhere, it's very safe, considering health, shopping, water, supply...
