Finally managed to sell my car.
Closed the deal. Signed the agreement. Money transferred into my account.
I need to now cancel the registration. I have two cars but one number plate.
I contacted the Road Transport Office and they said that I should send them a post with the Registration Certificate and a note about what to do. But the process can take upto 14 days. The buyer wants the car (because he has paid the amount in full) and told me that he will pick up the car and I send the RC by post to them.
How have others done it?
I was strongly advised to get the RC cancelled before handing over the vehicle.
Any advise or watch outs.
I will anyway go to the office tomorrow to check.

Go to Strassenverkehrsamt personally - they should do this on the spot.
As you are "Currently in Switzerland" not so easy to advise, but go in person, in Vaud takes the time you have to wait for your turn in the queue, they stamp the grey card as "cancelled", i think you can still use the car with the plates for the remainder of the day the card is cancelled, your tax and insurance are automatically cancelled at same time, all parties are notified and the credit notes, pro-rata get sent to you by post.

I have two cars so the plates are on the other car (Car B). I assume I can simply take the card for Car A and get it cancelled. Dont think I need to go in Car A unless they want to inspect.

Final update.
The cancellation process was super simple. Show up, give the RC, get it cancelled. Glad I went in person vs. sending via post.
