Should we marry in Switzerland or abroad?

I have a question and I need your opinion.

My boyfriend is Swiss national and I am not. Is it better for us to marry in Switzerland and than to ask for my permit, or to marry in my country and then to make marriage approval in Switzerland and than to ask for my permit.

In general we would like more to marry in my country but we are not sure how long does procedure last to approve marriage in Switzerland which is made abroad.

Does anyone have any experiences or advices wit this?

Thank you

Congratulations!

The approval part will probably be easier abroad where you don't have to run from one office to the next to submit papers etc. Go to the embassy in your country and they'll be able to tell you exactly what papers you need.

No clue how the approval process goes for visas/residency requests.

Good luck

What is your country? If EU, then acceptance should be straightforward, just bring a marriage certificate in one of the three languages I/DE/Fr, or have one translated. But yes, check with your Embassy.

I got married in the US and my husband is a Swiss national and it was so easy for me to move here and get a visa. I just had to show my marriage certifcate and the rest of the normal required papers for Visa.

My country is not EU

Ok thank you. But when I bring them marriage certificate in German but from non eu country, how long does it take them to approve the marriage?

And second, how long should I wait for the visa after I give all the papers. I can stay in Swiss up to three month without visa, but still I would like to have proper papers and insurance as well.

Can person get insurance while waiting for permit and has marriage certificate or not?

I can't remember exactly how it worked. But I think all I did was bring the marriage certificate (in English) to the town hall and ask to get a visa (you will get a b-permit after completing all the paperwork). I stayed here as a tourist during the visa process. Was all very easy. You will probably still need to be on your homeland insurance till you have a visa. Do check with your Husbands provider.
