Nah, could still be the crucifix, as lethal injection is usually administered in a similar way (lying on your back with your arms stretched out either side.
Alternative would be a bullet - e.g. if in China...
As I didn't see the film I can't tell how graphic it was.
If it was similar to Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ, my friend passed out in the cinema during the flogging scene and he's in his 30s.
8 years old does sound young for something so graphic. I'm not sure if this is accepted practice in Switzerland.
But would you have objected if you'd had prior warning and your kid was say 14?
On a lighter note, if you hadn't mentioned RE, school and Jesus, I might've thought your child walked in on you and your hubby watching Saw 18 or another film in your collection
as a parent, I'd be asking what the rating is on the video shown...
if it's 'parental guidance' required, then I'd be VERY CROSS (no pun intended) that they showed my child without my permission.
It really pees me off when our kids are exposed to violence and adult content - and no, our kids are not accidentally exposed to TV at home, because we don't have a TV at all...
this is an excellent analog/argument, funny even. if the person viewing the cruxification were an adult.
as the person in question is an 8 yr old child, i think it is inappropriate to either show violence in relation to religion (it can be construed as indoctrination through fear) or tell a child human violence is similar to cartoon violence.
But isn't that what religion's all about - fear? Fear that you'll be sent to the firey pits if you don't follow the rules of the most violent of all books?
i agree. my point is, any portrayal of human violence is inappropriate for an 8-yr old, worse in the guise of RE. i spent many years in a catholic school, and i didnt encounter violent descriptions until maybe 13, even then it was done carefully. i didnt go to RE here, so i dunno if indoctrination is the deal.
If it was a scene like the one from The Passion of Christ movie then I can see why you were upset! I would not recommend anyone under 18yrs old see that! I would go to see the movie like some people suggested so you know for sure what your kid saw. I am all for kids learning about Jesus for Easter but keep it age appropriate.
Exatly, talk about the beautiful things about Jesus.
Exactly! I don't believe in kids watching too much violence, blood & gore.
I know how he felt! My stomach was all queezy like I was ready to throw up! That was too much and it seemed to go on forever. That movie is too much for any child and most adults. That movie should be rated PG-55 for not suitable for anyone under 55yrs old! LOL!
Not me, it could have been a drunk homeless wino being flogged like that and I would have felt the same. Just seeing any human being tortured like that made me queezy.
