So many barber shops have sprung up in Zurich

You murdered all the comedians?

Those that didn’t leave fast enough, yes.

Queue the comedian harmonists.

From 1926 to 1935, very listenable even today, but as three of the members were Jews they had to disband.

When I lived in the UK, the German Ambassador to the UK was sometimes on the radio.

He had a great sense of humour. I suspect that is why he got the posting.

Henning Wehn even made it big in the UK…

Most of the Swiss barbers and hairdressers I’ve come across are perfectly capable of cutting different hairstyles. Alas, they usually don’t partake in the money laundering / ten empty barber fronts in one street.

Rainer_d isn’t going to be able to get that song out of his head all day…

Sorry for spoiling the party, but money laundering accusations can’t be given away like candy in Halloween. There are curious laws in Switzerland about saying things, stay smart, don’t make any specific reference.

In 15 years I only met a native Swiss hairdresser once. The rest were foreigners.

I think quite a few of them are secondos.
And to be honest I find the neighbourhood morphing into a unrecognisable place seems to stem from particular groups.

Expats?

Since the Middle East topic is so popular, the relevant posts were moved to the Middle East thread. Nothing deleted, just moved to the proper thread:

Let’s please keep this thread on-topic and leave the global politics out of it. There’s a whole section for debating that stuff.

Back to the topic… Zurich government should investigate these ā€˜Barber’ shops

It’s not really in the remit of the government, is it? More likely it would be the local plod. You could give them a call and tattle on them.

I think slammer made the point well, a ā€˜Turkish’ barbershop isn’t problematic per se; it’s the ghettoisation effect which sometimes follows, as can be seen in other European countries.

*although the federal police have put out warnings about the issue of money laundering within barbershops.

I’m more concerned about the strategic location they have chosen to open these shops. Just go for a stroll around Lochergut/ Goldbrunnenplatz. Size of these shops range from small 18 m2 to 1000 m2… Shops literally next to each other sharing the same wall, shops opposite to each other. It just doesn’t add up. Call it a conspiracy theory or whatever… But if someone wants to take control of a city and if they have control over large number of shops, it’s easier for them to promote a propaganda or in the worse case if they want to create law and order situation, it’s easier for them to start riots etc by deploying people in these shops.

Everything’s possible in the world of ideas. But is there any indication of that?

If the issue is money laundering, they tend to stay quiet, the goal is launder money not popular revolt. If the issue is popular revolt, it’s not people that prioritizes financial concerns. Basically, the topics are mutually exclusive.

Maybe put more attention to football matches or protests against gentrification. The police won’t do much if the rioters are kicking a few foreign looking guys. Take care.
