speed camera and vignette

It's possible. Legality-wise, obviously not. When I first came to Switzerland, I had been driving for 11 hours from Nice ( it might take some of you guys less time, it was my first time, on a motorbike on a windy day with 25 deg+ heat and bendy motorways down south ) and I came through the Grand St. Bernard tunnel on the Italian side as night fell, and by the time I got to Martigny, I saw that there was a sign saying that a Vignette was compulsory at this roundabout. I thought for a minute, and it did say that it was Vignette-free up to the Martigny-Expo exit. So, I thought buying a Vignette would be as simple as driving up to a French Autoroute Péage. That wasn't true, and so I was waiting for this tollbooth to appear. I thought after driving for some time, that, gosh! it's really far!! By the time I realised there would be no such toll both I was passing the first place with a familiar name - Aigle, and by Montreux I could recognise the city of lights below, I realised there definitely was no tollbooth.

I purchased a Vignette a few days later after much sleep and unpacking in Fribourg Canton

the rest of europe currently shares driver data anyway under

"Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council facilitating cross-border enforcement in the field of road safety"

But GB opted out of the above directive due to concerns over driver identification, however in extreme cases info is provided.

According to the EUCARIS site, UK currently participates in EUCARIS whether it will be a full disclosure like other EU member states is to be seen in the future.... its always been mooted but never implemented though

Be aware there are new types of cameras/speed traps being put in place in CH. Around these parts, swiss romand, I understand they are using/or at least testing the next generation ones that take a picture of every car at one place on the autoroute, and then another one some kms later. The software matches them up and calculates your driving time. If this exceeds the average driving time at the speed limits, you will get a fine.

Ah yes...the 'average speed camera'.....just like the UK.
