I just got a fine from a speeding incident in Graubünden, near Flims where I passed a radar with 71 km/h in a 50 km/h zone (I always use cruise control to not lose track so it must be that I didn't realize the drop from 80 km/h to 50 in the road signs).
I was expecting money + warning which was scary enough with the implications in case of a repeat offense but I just got the letter and they'll take my licence away for a month in October instead of a warning.
Do you know if it's possible for me to reach out to an institution to urge them to reconsider since I have a very clear record ever since I've been living in Switzerland and it feels like a pretty big escalation in the first, unintentional offense. (the last part -it feels- will work as a trigger for people teaching me lessons I suspect
At least they are giving you plenty of warning for the suspension.
Just don't do what a colleague did and be caught doing something stupid in the month leading up to the months suspension, he didn't have his licence for a year afterwards.
Did you have 71 after or before the marginal error? If it is before it should be indeed a warning with aprox. 400 chf fine...if it is after a month without driving is actually good
You can actually change the month, it does not have to be in October....just talk to Strassenverkehrsamt.
Whatever you do, do not mention that it was caused by cruise control. That can only make it worse because, combined with the speeding, you basically say you weren't paying attention.
What for? If OP was inside an urban center and 71 was after removing the tolerance, OP got the minimum possible driving licence suspension according to the tables others posted.
The one month driving ban is for first time offenders. Otherwise it would be 4 months ( Art. 16b SVG )
15 km/h over in a 50 km/h urban area is just a fine of CHF 250 and no administrative measures. ( OBV No. 303.c and Art. 16 Abs. 2 SVG )
21 km/h over in a 50 km/h urban area is considered as moderately severe traffic infraction, the suggest fine is CHF 600 (plus court fees) and a 1 month driving ban (plus administrative fees) is the usual result for first time offenders.
