Spouse permit and A1 exam

Hi

I am on a B open permit and up for renewal soon. My spouse needs to take the A1 exam before the renewal

The exam is booked but it is 2 weeks before the expiry of the current permit and results expected upto 6weeks later

I wrote to the Canton Basel Stadt and was told he needs to attach the results with the application

In this scenario, his current permit will expire and his exam result will come later.

What are our options? We are Bristish nationals

Put the exam booking confirmation with the application and a note to say when you expect the results? Not much more you can do

Did he take classes through a tutor or school? If so, see if the instructor will write a quick letter.

When the pandemic started and schools were closed down. I know a few people that used a letter and the canton asked for the certificate the next renewal.

N of 1 but I know someone (in Basel Land) that asked for and was given a 6 month extension.

Similarly N of 1, but evidence of attendance to language courses (copy of contract, register of attendance) plus commitment to submit certificate has also worked.

Maybe offtopic, but I can only recommend SDS exam. There is a centre in Basel too: https://deutschtest.ch/basel-deutschtest/

I received results in 2 business days and the test was conducted on iPad. The test instructors were very friendly.

Were you both in Switzerland before 31 December 2020? If so, you would fall under the CRA and the A1 requirement may not apply.

I was told this too. Its should be just a straight forward renewal.

I renewed my B Permit in Baselstadt last June, all I had to do was let them take a photocopy of my passport at the immigration office and they sent me out an appointment. Everything was held up because of Covid and they told me not to worry if my existing permit expired.

The appointment consisted of having a digital photo and my fingerprints taken along with my signature. German A1 was never mentioned and everything at the appointment was handled in English. My new credit card style permit was with me within about 5 days.
