quotas for secondary properties like in Switzerland
a law forcing to sell empty standing real estate by the state (I would not vote for it but I can accept it as a law)
yet another legal framework
What I don’t accept: (1) guy buying a second home and expecting full ownership (2) another guy breaking into it “because he has a need and there’s a crisis”.
If the squatters occupy used space, I’d agree that it’s unacceptable. The horror stories you hear from the US where sqatters occupy someone’s house are indeed insane. But if the space is unused, old, and poorly maintained, like former industrial buildings, that may well be a different story.
Another brilliant idea for you: forced car sharing “in certain circumstances”. See a car of a neighbour being stale for a month in his underground parking? He’s a bad car owner. He cannot simply have it just for the sake of it. It’s unethical and unecological. Someone’s empty car is someone else’s tent. How do you like it?
the ‘recent reconversion into a housing unit’ on the groundfloor that they mention, is a very euphemistic manner of saying ’ squatted’. (on Spanish sources, the explosion did not come from the bar, but from the squatted area…)
How far would it get a society in terms of advancement? Maybe it’s better to locate surviving tribes and send communists there (or to Cuba/N.Korea as alternative options)?
That is not the aim of squatters of long abandoned factories and apartment buildings in Switzerland. The aim is to use it until the owners finally take care of them and do something productive with it. Taking over ownership is not the goal.
I’ve not heard of single-family homes having been squatted here either.
Squatters do not really ‘take care’ of the property. They use it - and not necessarily on the normative (=legal) manner, as they don’t have legal rights to connect - or make changes- to electricity, gas, etc. This puts them, and people around them in danger.
this is like being pregnant - you are, or you are not.
You are inside the law, or you are not.
‘depends’ starts getting me some red flags all around
or, as they say in business terms: ‘cash is a fact, profit is someone’s opinion’
I pose myself a question – there are tons (well not tons, but may more) of abandoned dwellings on the mountains, in small or remote villages…but the squatters insist on squatting in the cities.
And here comes my question - why in all of the countries there is this ‘inner migration’ from the countryside to the cities? I am trying to think historically here – did this happen also in the roman empire? in Greece? in the Asiatic empires?.. how did it resolve?
Ectopic pregnancy?
Inside the law/outside the law? Watch Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul to the end. The chemistry labs might be pure show, but the exploration of morality within and without the law is done brilliantly.
As for drift to the cities. I think it really took off with industrialisation so the older civilisations were less affected. We are seeing in real time how it plays out.
Moral, inmoral, amoral. Lawful, Unlawful, Alawful .
Does that term exist in English? it does in latin-speaking countries. it is not legislated (regulated by the law), so it is not unlawful…
i lived for a while in Lagos, DF (Mexico) and Manila, and I saw first hand what an ‘extreme’ inland migration situation can develop into – and I am not talking about squattering or social issues, I am talking here about health & medical care (public hospitals where I worked).
Obviously not something that will be happening in Switzerland…or, will it?. Lagos must have by now between 25 - 30 million people, in one city (similar to the other ones) - that’s 3 times the whole population of Switzerland. How do you manage that…? One city might also create or control most of the GDP for the country – does the city ‘overtakes’ on the national government on regulations and laws?.. is Zurich starting to change the paradigm?
*ectopic pregnancies. We all know where all of them end.
Something is telling me it’s a self-explanatory analogy only to a reasonable person.
A left person can probably come up with a number of exceptions even in this case “pregnant biologically but not identifying as pregnant”, “identifying as pregnant but pregnant via another female”, “pregnant biologically but planning an abortion hence not pregnant”
