Sticky brown sugar....?

In fact, I also found a store in Barcelona proper, called Taste of America. But The British Market is closer to where I live. Thanks for the tip!

PS - Tongue partially in cheek...

PPS - Looks like the Castelldefels place shut down a few years ago, but Taste of Home is now in Sitges!

Nah, I'm completely with you on that. I've mentioned it in the past but get shot down in flames because the prices apparently reflect the shipping over here in the first place, the storage and the extra wages of the staff employed to sell it.

Happily I'm not so desperate for the taste of home that I feel compelled to separate myself from my arm and leg for a box of Christmas crackers and a pack of brown sugar.

Brown sugar can be found in rough powder, cubes and in individual packages in Caprabo. I enjoy it everyday in my coffee.

I also love to make marmalade, do you know anywhere you can get real Seville oranges from, you know the ones that are very sharp in flavour (not for normal eating)

its also likely although I am not sure 100% that you could get the sugar from the Markt in the viaduct, they sell quite a lot of different things but expect the prices wont be too low

They're only coming into season about now (normally Dec.- Feb.), so probably haven't arrived here yet in the stores - but keep looking they should be available soon.

@ Nil.

Brown sugar (loose grain) is not the same as the sticky brown sugar being discussed here and on the famous thread "Where can I find brown sugar".

It is a brown sugar that is mixed with molasses . That is what gives it the sticky effect. It is something typically found in North American and the UK (possibly elsewhere). It is used in many baking recipes and on porridge (which some people love and others hate) at breakfast time.

Since it is not used in Europe, it is normally quite hard to find, except from expat shops that cater to the English or North Americans.

Regular loose brown sugar can normally be found in any European grocery store.

seville oranges .. see here:-

Seville oranges for marmalade making

I got mine last year from the Reformhaus in Marktplatz, Basel. I ordered them as I wanted 5 kg and they got them in within days. They started being available around Christmas but I bought them end Jan. Funnily enough they were marked as from Italy. The marmalade was delicious .. onto the last few jars now.

More info on the "sticky brown sugar".

It is made from cane sugar that is filtered to remove impurities then crystallized without further treatment to maintain the molasses taste that is in fact coming from the cane sugar.

Here in CH, the white sugar is coming from beets.

Photos show you the "clumping" that you get vs. a regular dry sugar.

Hi Nil - Is this raw cane sugar? I was just in Caprabo and they have it. But no one seems to have the kind for baking which is thick and dense. Very common in the US for baking.
