Stinging nettles

But doesn't it have to be diluted one million to one to become effective?

Uh oh...

Not the "H word" again.

There is no scientific fact that a doc leadf can take the pain of a nettle sting away. It's all in the mind!

Well-I-Haven`t-read-thru-all-the-posts-yet(as-you-can-see-am-having-problems-with-the-spacebar!-awaiting-service)

But-your-reply-I-find-interesting.Albeit-a-bit-stupid-If-you-don`t-mind-my-saying-so.

Why?Because-I-was-out -raking-hay-in-the-middle-of-a-field- and-got-stung. Nothing-was-growing-nearby -so-used-the-actual-nettle-and-it-worked.

I-think-I-have-identified-the-Dockleaf-in-my-garden...(thanks-to-the-poster-of-that-photo-and-the-information)....but-is-about-1km-away-from-hayfield. AndFarmer-would-not-have-been-impressed-to-see-me-go-gallivanting-off-into-the-distance-with-my-stings.It-worked-end-of-my-story.

You-may-all-now-proceed-to-piss-on-my-thread.

Well-to-admit-to-how-really-strange-life-can-be...........by-rubbing-those-nettles-with-my-hands.......it-actually-seems-to-have-cured-some-arthritis-pains-I-had-in-some-fingers!

Of-course-that-is-all-actually-in-my-mind.

Was-totally-unaware-of-the-resultant-result. My-mind-had-nothing-to-do-with-it.

Of-course-I-may-not-have-a-mind......which-could-be-another-story-to-debate?

There may not be a scientific fact but I like millions upon millions upon millions of children under the age of 13 who play in close proximity of stingy nettle bushes can confirm that that the dock leaf takes the sting away very quickly.

Smoky, unless you mowed the dock leaf, I can guarantee you, if there are stingy nettles there are dock leafs close by.

Like my first sentence, there may not be a scientific fact but I like millions upon millions upon millions of children under the age of 13 who play in close proximity of stingy nettle bushes can confirm that there will also be dock leaves close by.

Oh these are both (childrens) FACTS

The-hay-is-cut-by-hand.Then-threshed-by-hand......for-3-days.

So-if-there-were-any-dock-leaf-it-was-unidentifiable.

I-just-used-the-nettle-leaves-I`d-touched-growing-thru-the-field-from-next-door-field.That-field-had-also-been-cut/threshed.Only-long-stemmed-nettles-in-fence,-and-grass.No-lush-leaves-anywhere.

I have actually heard this before (about helping with arthritis pain), so there could be something in it.

It seems to have given you a strange kind of Dalek speech though!

Damn you!

I was about to say it might have taken away the sting but it has played havoc with his/her fingers!

I told you not to handle the nettles with your hands...

Sure, isnt the mind one of the greatest tools we have!

Ever see documentary’s about women in labor who meditate through it to numbthemselves and have a pain free birth (not that nettles and labor are equal but. . . anyways. . . . depends how dramatic you are )

I always thought that dock leaves work by "grabbing" the stings and pulling them out of the skin, but of of course that was the logic of a small child.

I knew it!!!! I always thought women were sworn to secrecy on the fact that child birth is pain free!

Which in this thread has already proven to be better than scientists.

I just looked it up, and the most popular theory is that nettle sting is acid and dock leaf juice is alkaline.

Here's how to do it...

Not sure if it does HAVE to be diluted.

Very interesting. I also have arthritis in the hands so think I'll have a go a rubbing them with nettles. Actually just looked this up under herbal medicine and it does seem to be a fact that nettles can be used as a medicine for arthritis.

Nettle tea (brennensessel or something) is used to reduce water retention. It might also reduce swelling.

Fixed that for you

Btw: I was told about 40 years ago that nettle stinging is good for your blood circulation. It stimulates it thru itching sensation, thereby I used to always take pain with honour aka humour. Some facts:

But as to the placebo effect - if you want to read something that'll take your mind off of a painful rash, I recommend this quick article:

http://www.brainfacts.org/sensing-th...f-the-placebo/

Here's the interesting bit: " research indicates that placebos can cause real biological changes , a finding that is transforming how medicine is practiced". (So maybe 'homeopathy' does work, ha ha!).

Agreed!

That said, I'm not going to attempt this!!!! I believe strongly in the placebo effect, ergo, I believe the effect of a elephant-sized epidural will completely numb me and I will feel nothing at all!!! I'll get meds + my own placebo effect = happy, happy land!

Erring on the side of medicine - I don't trust my brain!!!
