Street Parade in Zurich

I'm also in my early 40s.

Techno/trance should be played over mobile sounds systems in fields in Oxfordshire. In 72 hour sessions. With MDMA. In the 90s.

Once people with glow sticks and white gloves took over, I moved on.

Yes. Just accept you are older and things have moved on music wise. The younger people probably think deep house is just for old people, stuff that dad listens to.

Street Party is not for middle aged adults like me and you. Let the youngsters have their fun.

Tell that to the 80 year old dudes on the floats

I hear ya Neil hence me questioning myself, but back in my day euro trance existed then and it was shit. It was about as tasteful as happy hardcore or mainstream techno.

Germany is the birthplace of trance,

which in its early phases spun off some absolutely epic sounds such as Jam n Spoon.. Stella etc. To modern day artists such as Above n Beyond (prog trance) Always worth a listen. I guess the Germanic influence is highly probably as to the reason this festival showcases trance or euro trance as id call it.

I remember certain clubs abroad played this kack and id walk straight out. Im referring to the Sash and Tiesto type stuff. People in there, would jump and dance to anything, which in a way good for them wish i could be that easily pleased. Wow listen to me. And the modern euro stuff has taken on a harder beat. Maybe there were some quality dj's in the midst of this show i failed to seek out and appreciate.

But hmm a million ravers there today clearly loved it i was the minority.

You want some modern trance with a twist of prog house, listen to this, it would have any old grandad rocking.

It has become a boring commercialized thing. Zürich does not no how to move on to something else.

And horror upon horror, some of us did it sober AND still used glow sticks. You can still spot us today. We're the ones who buy a lot of toys for our kids with those flashing lights and noises.

Street parade is not about the parade, it is about the clubs afterwards and great parties on the Sunday. try rote fabrik on a Sunday after the parade.

We are back to the ONE MILLION RAVER report. As most of my neighbours and all of my family were all at home and the Migros was as full as ever on Saturday afternoon it can only be that most of these ravers came from farther afield. So, we shouldn't forget to pay the public transport authorities the praise they have earned. After all they had to bring every 7th Swiss resident to Zurich by plane, bus, tram and train. This from places as far away as Geneva/Locarno/St.Moritz and many other outlying centres. It seems that 500 packed extra trains each carrying an average of 1000 ravers fed the crowds into Zurich resulting in a train entering the main station every minute between the hours of 10.00 and 14.00Uhr. This caused a few problems but as the smiling station manager said 'It's all in a day's work'. The restricted tram service was also a problem but the visitors from all around Zurich came in by foot, the main arteries into Zurich resembled rivers of people flowing purposefully down to the action. Fortunately cars were left at home, at least by the Swiss residents, although quite a lot of Germans had a problem with parking - 'frustrating' one fellow said who left it a little late and had to walk with his family from Seebach.

Myself, well, I was at the airport picking up friends; my goodness, the crowds, all on their way presumably to rave - god knows what they expected to do with all their suitcases I thought! Anyway there must have been many extra planes too, they would have to be parked all over the place waiting to take the ravers back home of course.

It's amazing that they all got home in the end.

There appeared to be a problem with the toilets. 1M people and everyone has to go about every 3-4 hours, that's roughly 3M toilet visits in ten hours. Those responible for the erection of suitable places did a good job. That's about 300,000 wc visits per hour so one can work out just how many official 'places' were stationed around the raving perimeters.

One can't actually guess the numbers of beers, waters, colas, sausages, bread rolls, enjoyed by the 1 million visitors. If everyone spent only Fr.20 on light refreshment we have to congratulate the Zurich Tourist Board on their foresight. No doubt this raises the hope that we'll have 1.1m ravers next year.

The growing population of our land and the heightened degree of cultural standards holds many promises.

Been working down there, the streets after the parade looked like a field of garbage, the entire inner city was full of rubbish.

There is a lot of clean up work to do until zurich looks like its used to be.

If only the Zurich trams and buses had kept their waste containers!

Been there done that...

I gave it a shot first time in my +5 years spent in CH. Overall it was cool experience, searching for beer less than 7-8 chuffs per can, checking out butts of semi naked female specimens dressed like Police Academy characters, ear busting sound from techno buses, cheerful crowd and toilets queues like in a supermarket on hyper busy day. It felt like 20 years younger so it is defo good for rejuvenating oneself a bit

Just cannot imagine hours spent on cleaning the garbage ridden streets. It is a very big exception to generally accepted rule of recycling der Abfall. I find that the people are usually more social and extrovert during such events than on average introvert in real life. But good luck city of Zurich hey - luckily it is not my neck of woods All my empty cans always landed in garbage cans.

did you see him too? he was awesome (and adrian, he was wearing white gloves).

It was a lot of fun actually and yes unfortunately you are definitely showing your age! It's not exactly the first generation to listen to music the last absolutely thinks is terrible.

I had a great time at the street parade! The past 2 times I've been, I've been on the bridge between bellveue and burkliplatz, listening to the mobiles going past, and I've enjoyed it but more for the atmosphere rather than the music. This year we headed to the Arena stage and listened to fedde le grand, nicky romero, Nervo, Sidney Samson, and others.....and I had the best time ever. I love that type of music, and I think it depends on what you want from the parade. Loved the atmosphere, loved the music, and loved (most) of the people....the majority are all there to have a laugh, and do so peacefully, yes there are a few troublemakers, but most people aren't.

I think the street parade is great....it's only a day a year, and I'm sure that people who don't like it can put up with it for one day....

We had lots of fun and laughs! Loved the friendly and peaceful atmosphere throughout. Didn't come across any trouble whatsoever either at the parade itself nor the after party we went to.

For me, the only downer was what seemed to be more trash strewn around than ever before than at any of the StreetParades I've been to in the past. All this in spite of the countless garbage containers provided. There was also lots of water all over the place to hop, skip and jump over...

The after party was absolutely amazing! Lots of totally chilled, mellow and relaxed people all out to have a good time and fun. As for the downright cheek and nerve (all very friendly and non-threatening or hostile) of some of the younger chappies we encountered... well, it makes me laugh out loud now even thinking about it!

Was my first time of experiencing a StreetParade after party and definitely won't be the last! Thank you friend!

Some people did jump into the lake though

I enjoy the street parade! Love dressing up . . . . But I guess Im showing my age. . . I like a space where there is actually some space . . . and somewhere thats not too loud so I can chat with my frinds

For how long I wonder the streets will smell pee and drunk / on drugs mates will address me on the streets.... disgrace

Eurotrance, were we at different events? Freddy Le Grande was playiong, and pumped out some hard trance tunes that I loved back from the 98-2002 era! The rest was a lot of current popular dance tracks, certainly nothing out of the ordinary for a dance festival. I certainly at no point heard any Eurotrance.

I'm not sure you were at the parade long enough to get a good impression.

I was about to say, reading through this thread with all the standard miserable fudgers having a whinge, I keep seeing people talk about euro trance. There was no trance played at all. Well, maybe briefly on a passing float catering for that but it may of made up 5% of the music.

But then, all the floats had a variety of music. We had drum n bass, dance, techno, house, funky house, pop/dance mixes.

The parade doesn't really get good until 4/5pm either. I didn't even bother going out until the first floats hit the bridge which was about 4/4:30 this year. By that time the family outings have moved on and teenagers passed out.
