Summary of tax paid

Hi

I have been a PhD student since 2017 in Bern. I will be leaving Switzerland next month to my home country (non EU). Since I will be withdrawing my pension and AHV benefits, later back in my home country they may ask for proof of tax paid for this lumpsum amount.

Every year I do get a wage certificate that has the total amount of tax paid at source but in official Swiss languages. I was wondering if there is any way to get a summary of tax paid like a tax certificate for the duration of my stay in Bern; will be good if it is especially in English. I looked at the tax office websites but could not find any relevant form. I am thinking of translating the wage certificate and get it attested by a notary. Do you have any other solution? If yes, please reply.

Thanks!

Hi there - I am not sure what they are asking for specifically. I would expect they are looking for the amount tax that has been (or will be) taken from the AHV/2nd Pillar payout.

The amounts paid by you and the employer into social security and 2nd pillar are not taxable at the time they are earned. They are taxable when withdrawn (either as regular pension or as a lump sum payout when leaving the country).

The exact deductions will depend on your canton of residence and/or which canton the pension fund resides in, in case the payout happens after you left CH.

For those taxes paid, you will get a statement/confirmation in the final documentation.
