I think they speak about the amount of money washing around Zurich.
NGOs don’t pay nearly as well.

This could be part of the explanation, yes. Still, doesnt change the fact that high quality, gourmet food is more widely available in the German speaking part.
‘reasonable meals’ ‘proper food’
The army is going to feed you enough energy for the day - I don’t think they care whether it has “funny combinations” or you’re not getting spoiled like your mum does at home.
You seem to consistently miss the repeated point that they don’t. Unless you consider losing 9kg in 10 weeks is normal military practice?
For someone overweight, sure.
That’s irrelevant. You were talking about the army providing “enough energy”. Even overweight people need enough food to give them energy through the day to cope with the rigours of army life.
So you managed to infer the weight of BelgianMums son exactly how?! I personally just by looking at the first photo find the meal really bad for a conscript center in an army such as the Swiss.
Goodness…ehw. Since it’s full of additives anyway, couldn’t they just give it a better uhm, look or colour?
The fact that he lost 9kg in 10 weeks at the military suggests that he was carrying a few extra kgs.
Or it suggests that the calories are not enough for the level of activity in the recruitment center. Such assumptions are the root cause of most mistakes.
So, to follow that thought through to its logical conclusion, what do you think that the inadequate rations did to the rest of the recruits? You know, the ones that are, presumably, all shapes and sizes?
I’m guessing that most of them simply got on with it like a real man would.
MASSIVE take by the armchair Colonel, there.
He was not overweight at all and didn’t have 10kg to spare.
Everyone who sees him remarks on how much weight he has lost.
He was 1.95m and 82kg which is a perfectly healthy weight for his height, he’s now only 73kg which puts him at the low end of the ideal weight range for his height.
He’s lucky, he eats everything they give him despite how bad it is. Some of the others practically live on snacks they buy from the nearby supermarket and keep in a box in their dorm or care packages from family.
It’s not awfully healthy either, the only fruit they get is one apple per week and there isn’t much veg.
I don’t know how anyone can think that that’s ok.
Can they complain to someone given the fact that overall their nutritional requirements are not met? (silly question, yeah, this being army and all)
It’s comments like this that really make me miss the groan function.
I’m guessing you were a jerk on EF and are just carrying on that behaviour here.
They have, repeatedly. The brown slop was the improved version.
They do at least have enough to go round now and the portion size has increased a bit.
Frankly, the place to complain about this is the army and not here. Groan at them. If he is seriously losing weight to the point of malnutrition, he should request a doctor (they will have his check in weight) and file a complaint with the company. There are procedures for this and no one needs to tolerate inacceptable treatment.
Some of us have kids who are coming up to military age and it’s useful to get some gen on it. Obviously I could ask my husband but he finished his service years ago. Up to date chatter about it on here is useful.
This chatter usually stays a chatter though and people rarely, extremely rarely complain about unacceptable treatment. That’s why I even asked. Apparently they did complain and slightly anything changed…I mean that brown slop is not an “improvement” by any criteria.
