I think we have a couple of years until that actually happens. And prices in the shops keep on increasing.
I’m sure glad we don’t have inflation in Switzerland…

At recruit school there is a group of recruits assigned to the catering corps who chose that as they all have some kind of chef training. They cook all the meals for all the recruits supervised by experienced soldiers (who may actually have only done their recruit school the session previously).
In that sense it’s understandable that the meals are a bit hit and miss in the first couple of weeks as they are all learning the ropes and are probably not used to cooking in such volumes and not used to the portion sizes hence running out of food before everyone is served.
One would expect things to improve significantly once they’ve got the first couple of weeks out of the way.
Once they are out on exercises after the initial training period there are detachment cooks who are recruits randomly chosen from each section and who have been given some chef’s training in field kitchen’s beforehand.
It appears the training for young culinary talents within the Swiss Army did not proceed as expected!
December 14, 2020 - Following the example of competitive sport, the Swiss Army Food Service Training Center and the Swiss Society of Cooks are joining forces to support young troop cooks.
After their basic military training, the selected troop cooks will complete the remainder of their recruit school at the Food Service Training Center in Thun.
March 07, 2024 - Gastrointestinal epidemic among Swiss recruits
More than 30 recruits conducting their military service in Thun (BE) and Jassbach (BE) have contracted stomach flu.
WTF is stomach flu? Flu is a viral infection, isn’t it?
Yes, and it could have absolutely no connection with the cooking.
Good question: stomach flu, also referred to as viral gastroenteritis, is a type of viral infection that specifically targets the gastrointestinal system.
Honestly, looking at these pictures and these reports, I would have my kid see a civil doctor with the intention of getting a sick leave note. I would also have a lawyer write a sharp letter stating the facts including how the Swiss army does not live up to their obligation of providing basic needs and that the recruit will not show up as long as this has not been cured. As this is caused by the army, any time missed should not be added to service obligation. Send a copy to VBS.
Document everything with pictures, and go to press if they don’t play ball. Fuck them.
