Swiss Bank vs. Postfinance for new arrival

Good day all,

I am relocating to Switzerland, my international mobility team as well as my relocation agent have advised me to open an account with the postal bank Postfinance at the beginning, rather than the other Swiss banks.

I searched and read a bit about criteria and measures that the Swiss Banks would apply before opening an account, while Postafinance is obliged to open an account for any legal resident.

My question is what is the difference really between the two, does Postfinance provide a full banking service/experience, what limitations come with Postfinance that you can't do unless with the other Swiss Banks? Any idea?

Thank you so much,

IMHO open an account at a Canton bank. Every Canton in Switzerland has one.

I guess it's matter of convenience. Postfinance is easiest way to get your salary paid during first months. Also, one of the easiest places to keep an account in CH if you leave.

I don't like the banking webpage (how information is displayed), and the parochialism, but it's a good bank. Not bad at all for savings because it's cheap.
