I did the Zurich Sweetie tour last year and got introduced to some independent chocolatiers but not many of the small ones do bean to bar - it seems most get their couverture from Felchlin.
So I went to the Felchlin factory store in Ibach and what a revelation - their chocolate is simply incredible. I brought some back to the UK and comments from two members of my family included that they had been spolied for any other chocolate and that it was really beautiful - and they normally say that hype and snobbishness is what gives brands like Sprungli, Lindt etc their market place.
I would really recommend it or look for chocolate that is made from their couverture -but if you can get to the factory store do go, it is small but worthwhile.
Or my other favourite chocolate is from a shop in Einsiedeln called Goldapfel - excellent chocolate in there.
Laederach (the posh schoggi outfit who own merkur stores) do guided tours of their factory most Tuesday's and thursdays. It's a real tour not a glass tunnel affair like other ones, and you can eat loads of schoggi on the way around. 5 chf fee but they give you a 12 chf box of chocolates as a souvenir.
The factory is near Glaus. Well worth taking a day off work to see - I cannot recommend it enough!!! Loved it. Book in advance by their website, in English.
Will educate the cadburys lovers in proper schoggi
I fully agree. But my brother LOVED to have hazelnuts and walnuts dominating chocolates. We more than once exchanged chocolates we had got, accordingly. So that things in regard to wines, beers and chocolates always are a matter of taste.
Not sure if it's the best but Lindt does have good chocolates. If we talk about the ones that are mass produced and sold in supermarkets, then Lindt is good. Chocolates from small bakeries are good too
Hi Pather, what's the name of the bakery and the name of the special truffle? I would really love to try their chocolates but I'm leaving Switzerland before October so I will probably have to try them when I visit in the future.
I just bought the white chocolate (Swiss made) from Migros Budget and I have to say I've never eaten such a disgusting, low quality white chocolate in my entire life.
Totally agree with this post... never had the Migros white chocolate, but have never had any edible chocolate from Migros Stay far, far away from their Easter products!!!
I'm pissed, I don't know why I bought it, I guess I wanted to try Swiss chocolate for the 1st time. I generally buy Choceur chocolate which is delicious and worthy of the most famous brands.
My very favorite was a Lindt chocolate bar (which strangely was never sold in Switzerland). I used to buy all 3 kinds of the Creola bars every time I visited Germany. I believe they no longer make it but I have seen the boxed version available.
