Swiss initiative wants flight tax to fund railways

Judging by the lifestyle factors important to people which are discussed on this forum, and can be seen in real-life, I’d say that many of those factors are not merely a personal preference but are important to many, if not the majority of people.

So do airports. That’s why cheapo airlines fly cheaply at inconvenient times (which I’m sure you know!)

So that’s a bit of a non-argument, isn’t it? No one’s throwing down a couple of extra runways either.

Not as much as you would think. Their primary focus is using non-congested airports. EasyJet, for example doesn’t serve London Heathrow but does fly to three other London airports. And their historic slot portfolios at airports like Gatwick and Geneva are quite extensive at all times of the day. They have the most passengers of any airline at both of these airports.

Definitely not. We fly with EasyJet from Zurich or Basel at very convenient times.

And if you book an accomodation with Booking you get a free taxi ride from the airport to your accomodation in many big cities, including the ones in UK.

Funny that you don’t get a free ride from the railway station.

Dammit - I wish I’d known that two weeks ago. I booked my flights through Booking . com and almost lost the will to live, battling with the trains. Top tip for next time, though!

So you disagreed with this statement:

fly cheaply at inconvenient times

I find the cheapest flights from easyJet are at really late, or really early.

I’m gonna put this dead horse to bed.

Because people don’t agree with you?

I don’t know if it’s applicable to the booking of the flight. I have this offer with accomodation.

The Swiss love to pay more. So expect a YES to this. Just like they voted to pay more for Radio and TV.

They did not vote to pay more. They voted to pay the same amount as before, including a vague promise that the amount would be slightly reduced in the future.
These two initiatives (the one for radio/TV and this one on flight tax) concern completely different aspects of ‘paying’.
