But, unfortunately, I am very "un-optimistic" toward companies who force their potential users to use their service via mobile apps instead of the web.
And a news agency is among to most "bizarre" in that category.
I'm a dinosaur that cannot imagine how people is able to work without at least 2 monitors.
However, on average half of website traffic is mobile (phones + tablets). The other half, desktop. Don't know the numbers for 20min.ch and don't know the trends. Maybe it makes sense for them to start with mobile, eventually desktop catches up.
Also as bowlie mentioned, readers are the product. I think the people that would prefer to read news in English in CH is a population for interest for marketing. For most jobs you need at least 1 local language, if one is here without enough knowledge of local language it only means high skills, therefore disposable income.
If reading on an Android OS or iOS , open 20min.ch / srf.ch etc in chrome or safari browser and let it auto translate it for you in english.
Works really well and translation is about 90% accurate .. some times it can be little funny, remember once it was something like below when auto translating from blick.ch :
The original link said that 20M was using machine translation and warned it wasn’t going to ne perfect. In other words not much better than having your browser translate.
On my phone, 20min is automatically translated into English without an app, and on my laptop, I just open it in chrome and hit the translate tab if needed.
It actually gets better. As someone who speaks German quite fluently I am pitying the poor people who want to use 20 Minutes English version to improve their language skills. https://www.20min.ch/story/lonza-war...redLanguage=en
This is just ridiculous. A human proofreader might be needed. The German headline is completely different.
